In the end, it all came down to the one band that rule them all.
Even with equally standout performances from the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Kendrick Lamar, Empire of the Sun, and local favorites Itchyworms, Rocksteddy, Abra and Loonie, Radioactive Sago Project and Spongecola, the headlining Red Hot Chili Peppers ruled Day 2 of the 7107 International Music Festival at the Global Gateway Logistics City in Clark Field, Pampanga on Sunday.
With a vast improvement in attendance compared to the previous day, everyone who came in droves, including famous celebrities, instantly transformed into giddy fans when Anthony Kiedes, Flea, Chad Smith and Josh Klinghoffer took to the main stage at a little past 10:30PM and made the high prices of admission very much worth it.
The band performed a generous sprinkling of their greatest hits, including “Can’t Stop,” “Dani California”, “Otherside”, “Soul To Squeeze”, “Californication”, “Higher Ground” (a remake of a Stevie Wonder song), “Under The Bridge”, “By The Way” and the final encore song to close their extended 20-song set, “Give It Away”.
As the audience sang along to practically every song, the sprawling open air venue was literally transformed into one giant karaoke bar.
There were also musicians in the audience—mostly the other performers who decided to stick around for RHCP’s much-awaited set—that were impressed with the technical craftsmanship of Flea, Klinghoffer and Smith who dazzled with their mastery of the band’s unique brand of rock music that features elements of funk, punk and psychedelic rock.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers has remained red-hot even after over three decades of rocking sold-out arenas around the world. And many of the fans who either drove or commuted from Metro Manila to Clark field for over three hours were not disappointed.
Naturally, most of these eyewitnesses promptly posted about their RHCP experience on Twitter and Instagram.
