Versatility is actor Ejay Falcon’s ticket to stardom

Ejay Falcon.

Ejay Falcon says 2013 was a particularly memorable year for him in the sense that he was able to get projects that allowed him to flex his acting muscles and show his versatility.

During the recent 52nd founding anniversary of Caloocan City where the 24-year-old actor participated in an all-star basketball game with fellow celebrities Rayver Cruz, Joross Gamboa, Jason Abalos, Young JV, Marco Alcaraz, Ervic Vijandre, and Gene Padilla, the actor told InterAksyon that he was very pleased to land the lead part in the popular afternoon teleserye, “Dugong Buhay”.

“Doon ko, parang nakuha yung pagiging ‘sexy dramatic action star’ kasi naghubad ako, nagdrama din tapos marami akong mga action scenes. Dream role ko talaga yun at nagpapasalamat ako at sinuportahan ng mga tao,” he enthused.

The teleserye—which remained on the air for over six months—not only expanded the fan base of the former “Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Edition Plus” grand winner, it also opened doors for other noteworthy projects on the big screen, including “Saka Saka”, another action indie also helmed by “Dugong Buhay” director Toto Natividad, and two comedies, “Call Center Girl” and the record-breaking blockbuster, “Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy”.

Now, Ejay is currently headlining Aloy Adlawan’s “Third Eye” for Regal Entertainment which is also the actor’s first foray in the horror genre. The film, which also stars Carla Abellana and Denise Laurel, is both a critical and commercial hit and is now on its second week in cinemas nationwide.

“Para sa akin, hindi rin naman masyadong lumalayo yung horror sa action kasi marami ding fight scenes except ang mga kalaban ko dito, hindi tao kung hindi multo, mga aswang. So dahil na normal na tao lang ang papel ko dito, natatalo ako ng mga lamang lupa,” he noted.

Now that he has shown what he can do with varying film genres, Ejay says he has no problem even doing sexy roles since he has the physique to show for it.

“Gusto kong magawa lahat, kahit sexy gagawin ko,” he declared.

After working on an independent production in “Saka Saka”, Ejay also hopes to do another indie. He revealed that his handler at Star Magic is already studying a script for a film that may compete in this year’s Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival.

“Nasa handler ko na yung script pero hindi pa sigurado kung gagawin ko. Hindi lang kasi ako ang nagde-decide noon pero kung ako ang tatanungin, gusto ko talagang gumawa ng Cinemalaya film.”

In any case, Ejay seems to be more than happy with the way his career is progressing. He is so focused on his career that he doesn’t mind not being in a relationship at the moment. “Kahit nga nung Valentine’s Day, mga kaibigan lang ang kasama ko,” he admitted.

Does that group of friends include Sunshine Cruz, who he is rumored to be dating? Ejay wouldn’t say but in a recent interview with MJ Marfori of News5, the actor confirmed that he and his 36-year-old “Dugong Buhay” co-star are indeed going out but only with a group and not just the two of them.

Describing Sunshine as “a good person” who he very much respects, Ejay denied courting the veteran actress and said she does not deserve that kind of talk.

Ejay was previously romantically linked with young actress Empress Shuck, daughter of Robin Padilla, Queenie Padilla and Filipino-German model-actress Valerie Weignmann, a fellow housemate in “Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Edition Plus” last seen in TV5’s “Kidlat”.

He has also professed a crush on Sarah Geronimo but distanced himself from the Popstar Princess after she was linked with Matteo Guidicelli.
