Megan Young was crowned Miss World 2013 in Bali, Indonesia on Saturday, the first Filipina to win the title in the world’s oldest international beauty competition.
The 23-year-old Filipino-American actress bested 126 other candidates from all over the world after placing first among the Top 10 semifinalists. On Friday, she was announced as the winner of the Top Model challenge, one of the preliminary rounds.
She achieved her victory despite the malicious resurfacing of her sexy photos from a March 2012 magazine shoot courtesy of what Miss World Philippines franchise holder Cory Quirino called “a smear campaign by a neglible sector of the Philippine pageant industry”.
