Band singer from Pangasinan Mitoy Yonting of Team Apl emerged as the first ever “Voice of the Philippines,” edging first runner-up Klarisse de Guzman of Team Sarah by 15% of the total final votes.
Believing that “boses ko ang mangingibabaw” even prior to the final showdown, Mitoy (57.65%) bested Team Sarah’s Klarisse de Guzman (42.35%), Team Apl’s Janice Javier (30.56%) and Team Bamboo’s Myk Perez (12.81%). The 44-year-old rendered the Beatles’ “Help” during the final showdown.
Bulletin Entertainment lists three other “The Voice” winners among many from other countries:
Ben Saunders (2011)
Ben Saunders a.k.a. “Tattoo Ben” is the first titleholder of “The Voice of Holland.” He immediately became popular with both the judges and voting public right after singing Kings of Leons’ “Use somebody” in the audition. He rendered his number one single “If You Don’t Know Me By Now” in the finale and garnered 59% of the total votes.
Javier Colon (2011)
Contrary to the song number “Landslide,” Javier Colon of Team Adam Levine went all the way up, to cop the highest victory as the first “Voice of US.” He narrowly edged out by two percent of the total votes the first runner-up, Dia Frampton. This four-chair-turner rendered an original song “Stitch By Stitch” during the grand finals.
Leanne Mitchell (2012)
She may not be the crowd favorite but British pop singer-songwriter Leane Michelle from Team Tom Jones surprised everyone by emerging as the first ever winner of “The Voice UK.” She outshone Bo Bruce, Tyler James and Vince Kidd. Michelle sang James Brown’s “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World” and Whitney Houston’s “Run to You” in the final battle.
