Nikki after heartaches: ‘Okay na’

With her positive aura and vibrant personality, no one would ever think that Nikki Gil has gone through a rough patch in the last two months.

Following her controversial split with boyfriend of almost five years, Billy Crawford, Nikki carries on, focusing and working harder on her craft.

While, she has yet to speak with the “Bright Lights” hitmaker, Nikki revealed having bumped into her ex weeks back.

“Nag-‘ASAP’ po siya (Billy) noong isang Sunday. Nagkita po kami. Nagka-share kami ng backstage pero hindi naman po kami nagka-usap,” the 26-year-old Kapamilya actress and VJ related to the members of the press during the grand launch of the Philippine remake of the Mexicanovela “Maria Mercedes,” of which she is part of the cast.

Asked if she would want to speak with Billy, Nikki’s point-blank answer was, “Wala naman na pong dapat pag-usapan.”

She added, smiling, “Okay na po ’yun.” The remark earned her the applause from her co-stars seated beside her, as well as the members of the press.

While she is slowly moving on, Nikki doesn’t see herself finding love again anytime soon.

“Ay ’wag naman po muna! Naku po!” she gushed. “As much as isang matinding pagsubok ang pinagdaanan ng puso ko and as much as I want to move on, parang hindi ko po siya (new love) hinahanap. Kapag dumating naman siya, hindi ko rin naman babarahin pero hindi ko rin siya hinahanap,” Nikki stressed.

Kontrabida anew

In “Maria Mercedes,” Nikki gets to play a kontrabida to the Pinay Maria Mercedes, Jessy Mendiola.

As Mystica, Nikki learned that being a kontrabida can be fun, especially since the role is so far removed from her real personality.

“Masaya po ako kasi hindi ko siya nagagawa in real life,” she explained. “Na-e-enjoy ko siya kapag nabibigyan ako ng mga moments na nakakapag-maldita ako. It’s something very different. The feeling’s very foreign to me.”

She noted, though, what playing a villainess somehow also empowers her. “Dahil kung kailanganin pala, mayroon akong mailalabas na gano’n. Kapag may pagkakataon na maaapi ako or whatever, mayroon din akong assertiveness na kaya kong ilabas.”

While they have yet to shoot their confrontation scenes, Nikki maintained that she is good friends with the 20-year-old Jessy. “Trabaho lang po,” she added.

As to whether there is a possibility she would land “real” slaps on Jessy’s face, Nikki answered in jest, “Secret! Kapag may biglang hindi nagpansinan sa set alam niyo na ’yan.”
