Benjamin Alves: Wrestling with rumors

Rising star Benjamin Alves is still new in the show business but he has been pretty much subjected to a whole scope of intrigues.

One rumor that has hounded him has to do with his sexuality. In fact, Benjamin – the nephew of Piolo Pascual – has often wondered how speculations persist despite the fact that he, too, has been linked to several girls, like Max Collins and Janine Tugonon recently.

“Yeah, I hear that (gay rumors) all the time and I still hear it. You know, even (if) you admit that you’re dating somebody or going out on a date sasabihin pa rin,” he told Bulletin Entertainment in a recent interview.

Nevertheless, the Kapuso heartthrob “never get(s) mad” at intrigues, saying he was well cautioned before joining showbiz. To him, they are part of the career and blessings he is now enjoying.

“There’s really nothing you can do. I think, the moment that you let it get to you is the moment that you fail to understand the business,” he added. “You can’t accept the good and be mad at the bad aspects of it.”

Love for later

Rumors notwithstanding, Benjamin notes he is in no hurry to enter into a relationship.

“Tatakbo pa lang, hindi na ako makahanap ng time, sinisingit ko pa ‘yung pag-exercise sa taping. What more ‘yung pag-date?” he shared.

On Max and Janine, women he both respects, he reasoned, “They have the qualities that I look for (in women); it’s just not the right time.

Kung hindi ko naman maibibigay ‘yung bilang mabuting partner, nakakahiya naman sa kanilang dalawa or whoever.”

He also added, “Hindi naman curse maging single, it’s actually a time to prepare.”

I need Pacquing

Benjamin is now part of historical mini-series “Katipunan,” in which he plays the role of shy altar boy, Sebastian. His character, he said, resembles his personality – “tahimik, mahiyain at malalim mag-isip.”

He said, “Kailangan ko ng isang Pacquing (played by Dominic Rocco) para lumabas ‘yung pagiging bibo ko. ‘Pag lumalabas si Pacquing, lumalabas ‘yung pagiging pilyo kong bata.”

“Katipunan” is an eight-part dramatic series that aims to present the Katipunan history in its entirety, from Andres Bonifacio’s formation of the group to the surrender of Emilio Aguinaldo to the Americans. The series airs every Saturday at 10:00 p.m. on GMA-7.
