It’s been days since Megan Young clinched the Miss World 2013 crown yet her bashers seem to be busy as ever on Twitter.
Facebook user named “Devina DeDiva” sparked outrage after screenshots of her alleged posts last Sunday went viral on several social networking sites.
“Miss Philippines is Miss World? What a joke! I did not know those maids have anything else in them,” read the post that were deemed by many as “racist.”
Information on the Facebook account claims that DeDiva came from Manchester University in Indiana, USA. It also said that she is Indian who resides in Singapore.
Manchester University on Wednesday clarified on Facebook “that Devina DeDiva has never been a student at Manchester University.”
It added: “Manchester University stands as a place of differences where the community engages in respectful dialogue cultivating individual beliefs and values. In our accepting community, the racist comments made by this individual would not be tolerated as respectful.”
Many Indian netizens also distanced themselves from the controversy, pointing out that “Indian people are warm hearted and well disciplined she is different so no need to blame whole India.”
“Hello I am also an Indian and i apologize of this on behalf of her she disrespect indian image at international level sorry everyone…love whole world…” posted Facebook user Vikram Batra.
Miss World 1993 second runner-up Ruffa Gutirrez advised netizens to ignore the basher. She defended Megan, saying she deserves the title because of her kindness and diligence.
“Haters will always be haters kaya ang mabuti na lang diyan, ignore them kasi tayo naman ang panalo talaga. And spread love, peace and positivity,” Ruffa said on “Umagang Kay Ganda.”
Megan is in London for a charity gala event. She is set to return to the Philippines next week before flying back to London where she will stay for a year to fulfill her duties.
