Christian Bautista intends to ask top Asian artists at the ASEAN-Japan Music Festival – Music For Healing After The Earthquake for aid to benefit the victims of super typhoon “Yolanda” that struck the Visayas region recently.
“We’ll perform, have dinner together so I will make a personal appeal na tipong ‘Hi, we sort of experienced what you have also experienced and we need more help…’ Kasi di ba, yung na-experience nilang tsunami (in Japan in 2011), matindi din yon. And now we are experiencing something na napaktindi din…” he told Bulletin Entertainment and select members of media at a recent press conference.
According to a release, the festival set for Nov. 28 aims to deliver hope and courage through music to all those affected by the Tohoku earthquake. The festival will be held at the NHK Hall in Shibuya Japan, which seats 4010 people, and will be aired over at NHK Channel. Top acts from ASEAN member countries will perform, including Japanese boy band Exile.
Christian will perform his hits “Invincible” and “The Way You Look At Me” as tribute to the courage and strength that the Japanese and Filipino people have shown in face of grave calamity.
The Pinoy balladeer disclosed that he has donated personal money through reliable agencies, naming World Vision, CBA Asia and Kapuso Foundation as among them. He added that even his fans in Indonesia are concerned about the situation in the Philippines, with many asking how they can help.
“The whole world is looking at the Philippines right now. Hollywood celebrities, Europe… everybody. So iba na pagdating ko sa Japan kasi nirerepresent ko na yung bansa na kailangan ng tulong. At hihingi talaga ako ng tulong.”
The singer believes that while we are indebted to many countries for their help, the Philippines will get its chance to repay the kindness and generosity one way or the other.
“Hindi lang naman yung cash ang mahalaga kundi, in our case na mga artists, yung talent na mayroon kami by performing in different benefit concerts.
“Be an inspiration to others, be a symbol of hope. Focus on your strength. Kung ano yung kaya kong gawin, kung ano yung talentong ibinigay sa atin, gamitin natin yan.”
Christian is asking media to also attend to other areas devastated by the super typhoon.
“Gusto ko ring mahanap yung iba pang lugar surrounding Leyte. Everyone is focused on Tacloban pero sana ma-raise din ang awareness sa nangyayari sa ibang mga lugar…”
After his participation in the festival, Christian resumes his Prince Christopher role in the Resorts World production of “Cinderella.” He is also seen regularly on GMA-7’s “Sunday All Stars.”
As an early Christmas treat, Universal Records has released Christian’s special 2-in-1 album, which includes his hit albums “Romance Revisited: The Love Songs of Jose Mari Chan” and “First Class.”
