Radio and TV news anchor Arnold “Igan” Clavio has issued a public apology for his controversial interview with Janet-Lim Napoles’ lawyer yesterday.

“Mga Kapuso, sa mga nakapanood po sa naging interview ko nung Martes, ang aking intensyon po lamang, tulad po ninyo, ay makakuha ng impormasyon mula kay Atty. Alfredo Villamor, patungkol po sa pagpunta ni Mrs. Janet Lim-Napoles sa Senado,” Clavio said during his morning program “Unang Hirit.”

The veteran journalist was referring to his phone patch interview with Villamor, a video of which has made the rounds online and drew mixed reactions (mostly flak) from netizens. Villamor is Napoles’ sole legal counsel, who handles her serious illegal detention case.

In his apology, Clavio pointed out that “Sa ngayon, siya lamang ang nakikilala naming natitirang abogado ni Janet Napoles, kaya, siya lamang po ang kinausap namin, na umaasang makakuha ng impromasyon tungkol sa nasabing Senate hearing.”

The newscaster-TV host admitted that he exceeded his limitations “sa sidhi kong malaman niyo ang balita…”

Igan ended by asking for understanding “kung may nasabi man ako na wala sa lugar. Maraming salamat po.”

In an exclusive text message to Bulletin Entertainment a few hours prior to Clavio’s apology, the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) confirmed that they have sent a notice to “Unang Hirit” for a conference on Nov. 11 relating to Clavio’s controversial interview.

“This is based on the registration of the program with us as a public affairs program with a PG rating,” it said.

The MTRCB expressed concern “about the children who may be watching” the morning talk show, but would “also want to hear the program’s side and how they can self-regulate (vs) any incident similar to the alleged one.”
