’10,000 Hours’ reigns supreme at 2013 MMFF

The action-drama “10,000 Hours” got the most number of awards in this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).

Aside from bagging Best Picture, “10,000 Hours” copped Best Actor (for Robin Padilla), Best Director (Joyce Bernal) and Best Supporting Actor (Pen Medina) at the awards night held Dec. 27 at the Meralco Theater.

The film, said to be partly inspired by what happened to former senator Ping Lacson when he went into hiding, dominated most of the other categories too, from Best Visual Effects and Best Production Design, to Best Original Story and Best Screenplay.

Even the Fernando Poe Jr. Memorial Award for Film Excellence and the Gat Puno Antonio Villegas Cultural Award were awarded to “10,000 Hours,” which also stars Bela Padilla, Michael de Mesa, Alden Richards, Mylene Dizon and Carla Humphries, among others.

Maricel Soriano won the Best Actress award for her role in “Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy,” which placed 2nd in the Best Picture race and received the Gender-Sensitive Award for the mainstream category.

Child wonder Ryzza Mae Dizon and former child wonder Aiza Seguerra, both from the box-office record-breaker “My Little Bossings” (3rd Best Picture), were named Best Child Performer and Best Supporting Actress, respectively, aside from their movie winning in the Best Original Theme Song category.

The Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla (Mavshack Male Star of the Night) starrer “Pagpag: Siyam na Buhay” nabbed the plums for Best Makeup and the Youth Choice Award, while Eugene Domingo of “Kimmy Dora: Ang Kiyemeng Prequel” was named Mavshack Female Star of the Night. The award for Best Festival Float went to “Boy Golden: Shoot to Kill.”

Optical Media Board Chairman Ronnie Rickets was given special recognition for his fight against piracy.

Most Gender-Sensitive Film (New Wave Student Films category): Jezreel Reyes’ “Hintayin Mo sa Seq. 24”
