Past failures didn’t break the spirit of Filipino Jayare Tamayo Doncillo, who finally win big in this year’s Mister Asian World pageant held recently in Singapore.
Speaking with Bulletin Entertainment, Doncillo disclosed that it was his second stab at a title in the three-year-old pageant. The last time, he only managed to clinch the Photogenic Award.
He admitted, “Nu’ng una, hindi ako masdyadong prepared, hindi ko alam paano lumakad at magsalita.”
Desite the setback, Doncillo never gave up on his dream. He went on to train harder, vowing to better himself.
“Kapag may goal tayo sa buhay, ‘wag na lang tayong maghintay ng chance and opportunity to pursue. Kailangan din nating paghandaan iyon para ‘pag nagkaroon na tayo ng chance na gawin, at least prepared na tayo.
“‘Wag tayo mag-gi-give up kapag natalo tayo o meron tayong nagawang mali sa previous challenges kasi du’n tayo matututo,” he said.
Hailing from Quezon City, Doncillo is a nursing graduate from Our Lady of Fatima University. He is currently working as a senior visual merchandiser for a Singapore-based marketing company.
The 27-year-old freelance model bested nine other finalists from different countries to win the title.
The Filipino community in Singapore showered Doncillo with unwavering support.
“I consider the best thing that ever happened to me was when the time my mom gave birth to me. Because of that, it gave me a gift – a gift to live my life and just who I am today,” he said in the Q&A.
Along with a crown, trophy and sash, he bagged 2,500 Singapore dollars and a one-year contract with a boutique sponsor.
About to his win, “We have the passion talaga to win, hindi lang sa pageant actually, kahit saan. Kasi siguro marami tayong challenges in life na du’n tayo natututo to be a better person, to be stronger, and wiser.”
Doncillo plans to come home soon to pursue his other passion: An advocacy to help children with cancer.
“Ngayong may title na, gagamitin ko ‘yun to empower and to lead more para mas makatulong,” he vowed.
