This 2014, TV5 will continue to veer from traditional television programming and dares to be different with its own variety of shows that are intended for the whole family. The network’s plan to offer out-of-the-box daily programs comes on the heels of their successful counter-programming strategy on its “Weekend Do It Better” shows and “Everyday, All The Way” primetime block.

Among the Kapatid Network’s new daily programs this first quarter of the year is Sharon Cuneta’s “My Pirated Family,” the follow-up show to her successful daily primetime serye “Madam Chairman.” On “My Pirated Family,” Sharon plays a one-of-a-kind street-smart woman who cons her way to the world of the rich and famous by putting together a fake family.

Additionally, the Megastar is poised to do her first ever drama anthology, “Minamahal.”

The Kapatid Network will also make a Philippine adaptation of two hit Korean drama, “Baker King” and “My Fair Lady.” This is in addition to the US hit series “Pretty Little Liars” to be top-billed by TV5 homegrown talents Sophie Albert, Chanel Morales, Stephanie Rowe and introducing Daniel Lee. This will start on the second quarter of 2014, announced Ms. Wilma Galvante, TV5’s head of entertainment division. She also said that they bought the script for “Pretty Little Liars,” which will be used in the adaptation.

The network’s hour-long dramas every Thursday night include “Obsession,” starring Marvin Agustin, Neri Naig, Bianca King and Martin Escudero in a controversial and cutting-edge medical drama about a woman who undergoes extensive cosmetic surgery to win back the heart of the man she’s obsessively in love with. Another TV5 Thursday night show is a drama series starring the network’s Primetime Princess Jasmine Curtis-Smith. In the eponymous series, Jasmine plays a fictional version of herself as she encounters a mysterious stalker who becomes obsessed with every detail about her.

Tuesday nights will also dare to be different as TV5 presents “One Of The Boys,” a “fast and furious romantic comedy” starring Eula Caballero as a struggling lady taxi driver; “Bekikang Boxer” with Alwyn Uytingco in the lead role as Maneng, a gay boy who has boxing skills that could make him a famous champion boxer; and “My Brother’s Keeper,” which teams up for the first time Aga Muhlach and Derek Ramsay as brothers who get caught up in a sibling rivalry of epic proportions.

A whole new season of reality, game, talk and talent shows will also be offered by the Kapatid Network this year. Aga’s successful game show “Let’s Ask Pilipinas” gets extended for another season, along with Gelli de Belen and Christine Bersola-Babao’s social reality talk show “Face The People.” Well-loved TV5’s programs such as “The Million Peso Drop” and “Talentadong Pinoy” will also make a comeback, Ms. Galvante also announced.

In addition, TV5 will also launch exciting new game shows, some adaptations from hit foreign game shows and some Kapatid originals. And Lucy Torres-Gomez will once again claim her reign on the dancefloor as she hosts “Celebrity Dance Battle.”

The biggest race on Philippine Television also returns to TV5 with Derek Ramsay hosting “The Amazing Race Philippines: Biyaheng Asya.” With a multi-million budget and bigger prizes at stake, the show will once again put together 11 teams who will race hard and race fast for the two-million peso grand prize.

Manny Pacquiao’s Victory Party

The victory celebration of the country’s boxing icon, Manny Pacquiao, was somewhat subdued, in deference to the terrible tragedy wrought by super-typhoon “Yolanda” in Eastern Visayas particularly Tacloban City and its environs.

In fact, the celebration was a surprise even to us, because we know that Manny had earlier gone to Tacloban City to undertake his own relief operations for the survivors.

His previous victory celebrations were star-studded and more than SRO, usually held at the house of former Ilocos Sur Governor Chavit Singson in Corinthian Village.

His latest victory celebration, also tendered by Governor Chavit, was held at a big tent at the Metro Walk, Ortigas Center. It was also SRO, and attended by close friends from showbiz, like Sen. Bong Revilla, Phillip Salvador, Ms. Gloria Romero, Jean Saburit, Danita Paner and her mom Daisy Romualdez, and Amay Bisaya, among others.

Of course, there was music and singing, with Manny himself performing some numbers.

ANC’s Ginger Conejero emceed the program.

The arrival of former president and now Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada made the party even more significant. Chavit escorted him in, and they sat together at the presidential table, Manny joining them later. The three became the subjects of seemingly no end of picture taking.

Will Manny again climb up the ring? It’s not for me to announce, he said. Bob Arum will do it as soon as a suitable foe has been chosen. Arum has denied the rumors saying Manny will be in a match with Floyd Mayweather
