Other than the acting awards and recognitions she has earned in her almost 15 years in show business, 31-year-old actress, host and model Iza Calzado also takes pride in her slim figure, which she has maintained through hard work.

Iza’s fans know how she has battled with obesity before becoming an actress via a number of GMA-7 drama shows. Now a Kapamilya contract star, Iza is given the opportunity to pay it forward to those stuck in the same predicament as one of the hosts of “Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition Doubles,” which starts airing on Feb. 3 as part of ABS-CBN’s primetime block.

She recalled that when the first season of “Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition” aired last 2011, she thought it to be the perfect show for her to host because she knew she would be able to relate with the contestants.

“Bilang dati po akong malaki at meron din akong ganitong journey, I relate very well to what the contestants were going through. Also yung mga issues, the challenges of everyday, like, getting up to workout or to eat right is tough kasi may mental aspect siya,” she related.

Iza added that “Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition Doubles” highlights the contestants’ toughness, determination and discipline in losing weight.

“Ipapamalas talaga dito ng ating mga bigating Pinoy ang tibay at lakas ng puso nila sa pagiging determined sa pagbabawas ng kanilang timbang at kung ano man ang pabigat sa kanilang buhay,” she said.

Iza got to know the contestants even before their journey began on “Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition Doubles” when she, the other hosts, and the coaches were tasked to visit and talk to them personally.

More than just inspiring and motivating contestants with their weight loss goals, “Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition Doubles” will also showcase Iza’s abilities as host.

“This is my biggest hosting job so there’s much commitment or responsibility. I’m nervous and there’s pressure. Gusto kong magpasalamat kay Sir Boy Abunda because he gave us pointers. I also want to thank director Freddie Santos for also teaching me a lot pagdating sa hosting and most of all gusto kong magpasalamat sa bumubuo ng show kasi kung hindi po dahil sa kanila I’ll be totally lost kasi this is the first time that I’m doing reality TV show and it’s a different ball game from hosting a corporate event or a beauty pageant. And I’m learning so much from them. And I’m so grateful to be given this opportunity,” Iza remarked.

In “Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition Doubles,” the paired contestants will undergo rigorous training conducted by challenge masters Matteo Guidicelli and Robi Domingo, along with coaches Jim and Toni Saret.

Apart from “Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition Doubles,” Iza will also be busy promoting “Starting Over Again,” her movie with another health and fitness buff, awarded actor Piolo Pascual, which will open nationwide on Feb. 12.
