In many beauty pageants, the question-and-answer portion aims to show that the finalists are also beautiful within, if not brainy, too.

Last Sunday during the Bb Pilipinas 2014 finals, each of the winners took less than a minute to show that. Here are the answers of the winning candidates:

Mary Jean Lastimosa, Binibining Pilipinas Universe 2014

The 26-year-old third time pageant charmer from North Cotabato, Mary Jean “MJ” Lastimosa, was asked, incidentally, by reigning Miss Universe Gabriela Isler: “What is the greatest advantage of being a woman?”

Her answer: “The greatest advantage of being a woman is being able to compose herself. Just like here, we’re standing in front of thousands of people, not knowing if you’re going to cheer for us or boo us. But we try to compose ourselves. We keep the emotions and show the beauty that is in us and tonight, thousands of people are standing here, celebrating the beauty of women.”

Mary Anne Bianca Guidotti, Binibining Pilipinas International 2014

Trade and Industry Secretary Gregory Domingo asked Mary Anne Guidotti, 24, from Taguig City, “Should you win one of the titles, how would you use your crown to push for your advocacy?”

Her answer: “If I win a title, I would use my crown to urge people to adopt their own advocacies. I want people to be passionate about it – something really close to their hearts,” the pageant newbie answered. “Someday, hopefully, I will make an NGO of my own.”

Yvethe Marie Santiago, Binibining Pilipinas Supranational 2014

Miss Universe 1973 Margie Moran asked the 20-year-old Albay native Yvethe Marie Santiago: “In your opinion, what qualities inherent in a Filipina that gives them an advantage in international pageants?”

Her answer: “The quality that every Filipina has and makes her stand out in international pageant is confidence. We feel confident with our own skin and that makes us feel very beautiful.”

Parul Shah, Binibining Pilipinas Tourism 2014

Filipino-Indian pageant returnee, Parul Shah, 25 was asked by broadcast journalist Korina Sanchez: “As a Binibini, you must be updated on events. What particular current event affects you the most and why?”

Her answer: “I’ll have to say it’s (the news) about the Malaysia Airlines (flight) that went down. My sincere love and compassion goes out to all the families who lost their love ones. All I can say is that we shouldn’t lose faith in God.”
