Even after being hailed as “The Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition Doubles” champ, Bryan Castillo still couldn’t believe that he’s gained so much more from the experience, that is, losing more than half his previous weight.
“Hindi pa po nagsi-sink in sa akin lahat ng nangyayari. Ine-expect ko lang talaga maka-lose ako ng 100 pounds. Hindi ko talaga aakalain na aabot dito,” the 22-year-old student said during an appearance on “Umagang Kay Ganda,” Monday.
Bryan, who weighed 293 pounds before the start of the competition, lost a total of 154 pounds or 52.56 percent of his weight, to beat the other three finalists.
He brought home P1 million, P100,000 worth of products from Toby’s Sports, Whirlpool appliances, lifetime membership in Gold’s Gym and a franchise of fruit shake stall Fruitas as part of his prizes. Kayen Lazaro was proclaimed first runner-up after losing as much as 145 pounds from her original weight of 287 pounds.
Francis Asis, who lost lost 149 pounds from his original weight of 305 pounds, emerged as second runner-up.
Osie Nobreja was named third runner-up, losing 133 pounds.
Asked what he feels after successfully losing weight, Bryan, known on the show as the Pride of Pembo, answered, “’Yung feeling na magaan ka lang. Makakilos ka na para magawa ’yung dating hindi mo nagagawa, ’yung mga gusto mong gawin makapaglaro, makatakbo ng maayos.”
Dismissing insinuations that he will easily revert back to his 293 pounds weight now that the competition is over, Bryan proudly said, “Ngayon, tumatayo ako sa inyo dito na wala nang takot, hindi ako na tatalikod. I’m looking forward to a better Bryan.”
Bryan entered “The Biggest Loser” camp with his sister Ikya; the two were dubbed team Magkapatid. However, Ikya failed to secure a spot in the final four when she was eliminated after the show’s 11th competitive weigh-in.
He thanked Ikya for helping him throughout the game.
“Sa kapatid ko na walang sawang sumuporta sa akin. Hindi niya ako iniwan, hindi niya ako pinabayaan, sa hirap at sa ginhawa. Sobrang alam namin ’yung isa’t isa,” he said.
For her part, Ikya said, “Ibang iba na si Bryan ngayon. Sobrang matigas ang ulo niyan dati tapos ngayon, changed person na talaga siya.”
She added, “Panalo niya, panalo namin, panalo ng buong pamilya namin.”
Hoping to be an inspiration to other people wanting to lose weight, Bryan noted, “Maraming dahilan ang mga Pilipino eh. Hindi natin maikaila ’yan. Pero once na simulan mo at nagustuhan mo ’yung ginagawa mo, magagawa at magagawa mo na siyang lifestyle.”
