The unique mix of chill-out electronic music and ethnic vibes courtesy of Egyptian-born DJ Mada greeted guests and members of the press Saturday night at Buddha-Bar Manila.

Mada (real name: Ahmed Khalil), resident DJ at Buddha-Bar Budapest, once played Sziget Festival, one of Europe’s largest music festivals; as well as at Buddha-Bar in Paris, St. Petersburg and Sharm-el-Sheikh.

Arianne Aguja, marketing manager of Buddha-Bar Manila, pointed out that they used a middle-eastern theme that’s suitable for the visiting DJ.

Asked how they were able to invite internationally-respected turntablists to play at Buddha-Bar, Aguja shared that they take their cue from their franchises abroad. “We ask them who plays what and they suggest names. We also suggest them names sometimes. This is done with other Buddha-Bar’s around the world.”

Buddha-bar Manila has DJ Joseph Alturas as resident turntablist. He is mostly known for his “ethno-chill” mixes.

Aguja shared that although Buddha-Bar usually adheres to the genre, they also play mainstream club music.

“We only play a few of these familiar songs,” said she.

The appearance of international jazz singer-actress Renee Olstead at the club recently had the press asking Aguja if they plan to invite more performers of the ilk.

“We’re considering that,” she said. “We’re open to the idea but we need the approval and the guidance of directors of the franchise.”

Buddha Bar presents its customers the chance of winning a Maserati Ghibli 2014. Ain’t that divine?
