A YEAR AFTER. Charice recalls coming out on Instagram

Charice Pempengco came out of the closet last year on June 2.

She marked the occasion by posting an inspirational message on Instagram early this week.

“It’s been a year since I came out. (JUNE 2, 2013) This day is not just for me but for all the people all over the world who had the strength to come out and be who they are,” the 22-year-old singer shared.

She added, “To others who still feel scared to tell the world, it’s okay. We’ve all been there and one day, you will find the strength to tell everyone. Be strong and always know that YOU, my friend, are not alone,” with hashtag, “#comingoutDAY.”

The post was well-received by supporters, girlfriend Alyssa Quijano in particular.

Quijano posted, “I’m very proud of you, Yan. I remember the moment when we were talking about the coming out, everything that’s been happening right now was way beyond our expectations. You are blessed. We are blessed. Basta, proud ako sayo (I’m proud of you). Always. Cheers to a year of FREEDOM!”

“i love you, Alyssa Quijano. Di rin ako magkakaroon ng lakas ng loob kundi dahil sayo (I would not have the courage to do it if it wasn’t for you),” replied the “Pyramid” hitmaker.

Addressing her bashers, Charice said, “sa mga taong nagbabalak kumontra sa mga posts ko, utang na loob, umalis na lang. Lol! Hindi naman para sa inyo ang posts (to those who are planning to object to my posts, please, just get lost. Lol! My posts aren’t meant for you).”

She reiterated that the “Old Charice” will never come back. “If u miss the old her, dun kayo sa fake accts na hindi nakakamove on. Wala kayong makikitang Old Charice dito kahit baligtarin niyo acct ko. Wala na yon. Salamat at magandang umaga (If u miss the old her, go to the fake accts of those who couldn’t move on. You will never see the Old Charice here. She’s long gone. Thank you and good morning).”

Charice is currently on a world tour. On June 15, she will be joining Lea Salonga and Black Eyed Peas’ apl.de.ap in a star-studded benefit concert for super typhoon “Yolanda” (Haiyan) survivors at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC.
