The search for the world’s most desirable man

John Spainhour

After our very own Megan Young brought home the very elusive Miss World crown, the country now wants to take a stab at the Mister World title at a competition to be held in Torbay, London on June 15.

It is remembered that two year ago, Andrew Wolff, won as first runner-up at the pageant.

“That was very encouraging and inspiring, too. That’s why we want we take a crack on the title again, which is really the search for the most desirable man of the world,” said Cory Quirino, national license holder of the Miss and Mister World beauty pageants in the country.

The Philippine’s bet in this year’s Mister World is model John Spainhour, who is also 2013′s Mr. Century Tuna.

Spainhour’s edge over the other candidate, Sam Aljani, is his military background – he is a former US marine.

As Quirino explained, “Kakaibang contest ang Mister World dahil po meron silang combat training organized by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), they have sports challenge in it, they also have a social media award as well. It isn’t an ordinary ramp competition, so we have to send a candidate who has the right background, someone who can actually undergo and transcend all the rigors and requirement of Mister World.”

The screening was done by ALV Productions represented by Arnold Vegafria and presented by Bench and Ayala Malls, as represented by Rowena Tomeldan, VP and Heads of Operations, Commercial Business

Group.

“We want to make a step forward. We want to leap forward by breaking through the male pageant. With this, we want to introduce Mister World Philippines, and we are starting it conservatively because we have to

break a certain consciousness about male beauty pageants,” Quirino added.

The current Mr. World is Francisco Escobar of Columbia, who was crowned on Nov. 24, 2012 in Kent, England.

Traditionally, Mister World has to live in London during his reign.
