Zanjoe Marudo admits it takes time for him to adjust to comedy

Zanjoe Marudo thinks highly of Pokwang that he is comfortable enough to do some sexy scenes with her in their latest movie “My Illegal Wife.”

“Si Mamang napakahalaga, eh, kaya mahal na mahal siya ng katrabaho niya (Mamang is invaluable that’s why she is well-loved by her co-stars),” he said during the media huddle for the film.

Noting that the scenes were called for, he insisted, “Hindi naman namin kailangang magpatawa talaga. Siguro ‘yung pagkakasulat ay maganda (We didn’t need to be funny. I guess the script was just well-written).”

As for Pokwang, whom he said deserves the ‘Pambansang OFW’ moniker, he shared, “Ipinagluluto pa kami palagi niyan (She would always cook for us).”

For her part, Pokwang is comfortable working with Zanjoe as well. They had begun working together when the latter left the “Pinoy Big Brother” house.

“Nakita ko ‘yung pag-grow niya bilang artista. Nakita ako ‘yung ugali niya, ‘yung kabutihan niya (I watched him grow as an artist. I’ve seen his attitude, his goodness.),” she said, noting how she’d always enjoyed working with him since their days on ABS-CBN sitcom “Aalog-Alog” (2006).

Weight on his shoulders?

Zanjoe already has the blockbuster movie “Bromance” under his belt. As such, he feels a bit of pressure to replicate its success with “My Illegal Wife.”

He admitted, however, “Siguro ngayon mas nabawasan nang konti… dahil siyempre kasama na si Pokwang (The burden is lesser now, especially since we have Pokwang on board.).”

Still, he insisted that he isn’t fully comfortable doing comedy just yet. He said it usually takes a few days for him to find his footing with his character and the story flow.

I knew I was doing comedy but sometimes I attacked my role as if I were doing drama. However, I settled down as the days went by; my body learned to move for comedy on its own).”
