He may not have won the grand plum on ABS-CBN’s “The Voice Kids” but Canada-raised Darren Espanto is still bent on pursuing a music career in the country.
“Hindi na po (muna ako babalik doon) kasi po marami din pong mga offers pagkatapos ng finals (ng ‘The Voice Kids’),” he told ABS-CBN News.
His parents are open to the idea, opting to leave Darren in the care of relatives.
“Babalik sila (sa Canada) para sa trabaho,” the 12-year-old said of his folks.
Elated for gaining fans during the competition, he deems himself “quite blessed.”
“I will forever treasure them,” he added.
A number of showbiz personalities expressed admiration for Darren on social media, among them singer Jed Madela, who described him as a “star.”
Noting the boy’s “amazing voice,” Jed advised, “Keep it up, kid! & I hope to perform with u someday.”
Concert for a cause
Darren is part of the upcoming charity concert billed “Boses ng Bulilit… Kami Ulit!”along with fellow “The Voice Kids” finalists.
“I’m very excited po kasi hindi lang po ‘yun TV show. Ito po ay parang wala nang competition, parang happy happy lang,” the young singer said. “We have guest artists. We have ‘The Voice Kids’ alumni, and ‘yung mga coach po.”
The date of the concert is yet to be announced.
