GB Sampedro’s entry to the New Breed category of this year’s Cinemalaya Film Festival, “Separados” is about people who were in marriages or relationships that, for one reason or another, didn’t work out.
It was a concept GB toyed with in 2006, a year after one of his relationships ended. He refined the concept, adding characters and scenes until the movie took its current form.
“Separados” is GB’s follow-up to 2009’s “Astig,” a movie that won him a Best Director award in that year’s Cinemalaya festival. The new film will be screened from Aug. 1 to 10 at different venues of the Cultural Center of the Philippines and the Ayala Malls Cinemas.
GB promises, “May ibang perspective ka na makikita dito. ’Yung punto de vista ng kalalakihan. Usually kasi, hindi naiisip na ang ang lalaki pwede ring masaktan.”
He adds, “People will be able to relate to the characters in the film.”
The film stars Victor Neri, Ricky Davao, Anjo Yllana, Jason Abalos, Alfred Vargas, and Erik Santos, who makes his film debut as a call center agent and battered husband.
