The goodness in Regine

When you spend time with people, you get to know them more and the same applies to celebrities.

Though some ultimately disappoint, displaying a demeanor far removed from their public persona – there are those that are quite admirable even off camera.

REGINE VELASQUEZ with Ogie Alcasid and son Nate

This is the case with songbird Regine Velasquez. I got to know the singer, wife and mother, in the three weeks I spent with her touring the US for a series of concerts, and she has proven to be golden.

A fine example of this was when she took time to buy singer Jonalyn Viray a brand new Louis Vuitton bag.

Jonalyn, who was also part of our entourage, got sick and lost her voice midway through the tour.

She was forced to rest during our Las Vegas stop while everyone explored the world’s gambling capital.

Regine empathized with the young singing diva. She experienced the same thing some two years ago. She knew what sort of ordeal the young girl was going through.

The very next day, Jonalyn got her bag.

When I learned about it, I told Regine: “Do you also give bags to the mentally ill like me?”

Here’s an excerpt of our chat:

Gossip Girl (GG): “If you could give your son Nate and husband Ogie one piece of wisdom what would that be?”

Regine Velasquez (RV): “To have a good relationship with God.”

GG: “What is your personal motto?”

Regine: “Love God first.”

GG: “Were you always like this?”

RV: “Even as a young girl, I always have a deep-rooted relationship with God. Everything that I have ever prayed for was given to me. Ang usual line ko nga, ‘Favorite ako ni God.’ Ganun ’yung faith ko. But now I have a better understanding of who He is. My relationship with Him is more personal now, I try to really get to know Him.”

GG: “When you pray, do you also talk to your father, Mang Gerry?”

RV: “Yes. I keep telling him I miss him. Kasi na-mi-miss ko talaga siya. I tell him na sana ’yung mga dreams niya, I was able to help make them come true like, for instance, travelling the world. I just really miss him. Especially ’pag may shows, like now, mama is here, dapat kasama din siya.”

GG: “You look like a person who has so much love to give. Do you think the love that you have for your father is a reflection of the love that you give your son?”

RV: “I hope so. Iisa lang ito, i-ca-career ko na ito ’di ba?”

GG: “Any plans of having a second child?”

RV: “Eto na, ’pagbalik ko! Agad-agad! Wait lang ’teh ha! Eto na!”
