Marian Rivera: Mission accomplished

Marian Rivera

Marian Rivera

Marian Rivera continues to put her star power by constantly spearheading different charitable activities.

The actress held an auction of her pre-owned garments over the weekend, the culminating activity for for the Adapt-A-Bangka program, which is aimed at procuring fishing equipment for fisherfolks from Bantayan Island.

Relating that the program has helped make the lives better of some 300 families affected by super-typhoon “Yolanda” in Bantayan Island, Northern Cebu, Marian said in a press conference, “Dito na po natatapos ang tulong namin sa Bantayan Island kasi nabigay na namin ang pangangailangan nila.

The Kapuso Adapt-A-Bangka Project is a livelihood program organized by GMA Regional TV and the Back-To-Sea Project of Bantayan Island with Marian last year, aimed at helping communities struck by the super-typhoon “Yolanda.”

Marian believes her status as celebrity works to an advantage for such projects.

The sexy actress finds fulfillment in helping the less fortunate and being able to influence other people to join community services.

She said, “Ang daming tumulong, kalahati ng mga donations dun mga fans ko talaga ang nagbigay so nakakatuwa.”

After the success of Adopt-A-Bangka project, Marian is up for another advocacy program that aims to help people with harelip.

Marian said she chose to be part of the project as “known naman ako sa showbiz as bungisngisera at pala-smile.”

If the program pushes through, Marian already has a tagline in mind: “Yan ang Smile.”

No ulterior motive

Like Marian, her fiancée Dingdong Dantes is also active in charitable endeavors. He is the chairman of YesPinoy Foundation, an organization that focuses on helping students.

Though their community involvements are out in the open, Marian clarified that it is not in preparation for Dingdong’s rumored entry into politics.

Marian related that she is not bothered about what people think of her and Dingdong’s activities, saying, “ako tumutulong, ginagawa ko ito bilang fulfillment sa sarili ko.

If Dingdong runs for a post in 2016, Marian maintained that he will get her full support but “ayokong pangunahan ang bagay-bagay.”

Marian deems herself lucky to be in a relationship with someone like Dingdong.

DongYan, as known to their fans, will tie the knot at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Cubao, Quezon City on Dec. 30.
