Award-winning news anchor Korina Sanchez has filed a three-month leave of absence from her news work starting January 2015 up to March 2015.
In an official statement from her camp, Korina filed the leave because of her studies, which requires her to make a trip abroad. Currently, the news anchor is taking up Master of Arts in Journalism at Ateneo de Manila University. She’s also applying for a simultaneous course at the London School of Economics and one of the requirements is taking a trip to Europe.
“I’ve talked about this with network management since middle of last year. The bosses were all for it. My advanced studies have taken the backseat for too long and if I don’t do this now, I may never. Kaya nga pinagsasabay-sabay ko na. It’s not easy but I’m optimistic I can do this,” Korina said in the statement.
Her business manager, Girlie Rodis, said the leave could take effect earlier depending on Korina’s travel plans for Christmas.
ABS-CBN News Head Ging Reyes confirmed that she has already received Korina’s request.
“The company values higher education as it is always a plus among our ranks. Many in our stable have also taken leaves of absence to pursue further studies. When they come back, there is always better output. We wish Korina the best of the experience,” Ging said.
Even while on leave from her daily live newscast, Korina will continue hosting her weekly magazine program “Rated K” and appearing in her occasional, award-winning interview show “Up Close and Personal” on ANC.
Korina will cover the visit of Pope Francis to the Philippines in January 2015.
