Liza Diño was pleasantly surprised when fiancée, Aiza Seguerra, held a party for her at My Cinema in Greenbelt 3 recently. The celebration was for Dino’s triumph at the International Film Festival Manhattan (IFFM) where she won Best Actress for her movie In Nomine Matris.
With tears welling up in her eyes, Liza hugged Aiza, and thanked her for the love and support.
“I’ve never met anyone like her. (She’s ) someone who lifts me up and encourage me to fly more,” said she, who was told earlier that the occasion would be just a brief meeting with members of media.
Liza feels so lucky to have Aiza.
“Never kong hiniling na ibigay tong tao na ’to sa akin. ’Yung ganitong pagmamahal is so selfless.”
Both have become more open about their relationship in recent months, taking to social media to profess their love for each other.
“Before, I never shared anything about my life. But with Aiza kasi, parang everyday is a celebration of love,” Liza said.
She is thankful that many people are happy for them, noting that “I’ve never heard them say anything bad about us. Lahat ng nababasa ko (sa social media) puro positive…”
If there are a few people who don’t quite see it their way, then so be it “kasi eto talaga kami eh.”
Their romance began over a decade ago when they were just teens. They rekindled love in January 2013, then made it public in September.
Flamenco fixation
Liza didn’t expect to bring home the IFFM Best Actress Award. She is thrilled with the positive feedback she has received for her performance as Flamenco dancer in In Nomine Matris.
“Ang sarap sa feeling. Kasi andaming entries, maraming kalaban, pero nung tinawag ’yung name ko, talagang sobrang thankful ako,” the actress recalled.
Before auditioning for the role, Liza took up Flamenco lessons and fell in love with the dance.
It is the second IFFM trophy for Liza after her win in the same category in 2011 for the movie Compound.
Wedding plans
Liza is hands-on preparing for their rustic-themed wedding in the US and the Philippine beach wedding they intend to hold early next year.
“Dati si Aiza ’yung pinakapunong abala sa mga bagay-bagay pero now we are finalizing details and hopefully matapos na,” she said.
Among the couple’s principal sponsors are actor Vic Sotto, directors Michael Tuviera and Ryan Carlos, and actress Sylvia Sanchez.
Aiza and Liza refused to divulge more details about their wedding. If anything, Liza shared that she, her daughter Amara, and Aiza are set to move into a new home after the wedding.
