A K-pop trainee who aimed to become the next member of girl group KARA died in an apparent suicide.
Ahn Sojin, 22, was found unconscious at about 2 p.m. on Feb. 24 on a flower bed at an apartment in Daejeon, Daedeok-gu. She was rushed to the hospital where she passed away.
The police in charge said Sojin died of excessive bleeding due to injuries. Korean media quoted police as saying that Sojin might have jumped from the 10th floor of the apartment. No suicide note was found.
She was reportedly suffering from depression recently.
Sojin was a trainee under DSP Media, agency of KARA, for five years. She was a member of Baby Kara, a group of seven aspirants aiming to become the next member of KARA.
In May last year, she joined the “KARA Project: KARA The Beginning,” a TV program that focused on selecting the next member of KARA.
The TV program aired its final episode last July where Young Ji was voted as the new member of KARA while Sojin placed third. Sojin returned to Daejeon after the TV program ended.
DSP Media and Sojin ended their contract last January.
“We are devestated and express our grief at the tragic news of So Jin, who spent a long time as a trainee with our agency,” ENewsWorld quoted DSP Media as saying.
DSP Media added, “We received news from her family on the night of February 25 and have already visited her at the funeral home. We sincerely send our condolences as she leaves this world at such a young age.”
