Being TV and movie personalities, it is a little tricky for celeb couple Judy Ann Santos and Ryan Agoncillo to raise kids and protect them from influences of and exposure to media.

“Our children don’t watch teleserye for the simple reason na kami ni Ryan ayaw naming mapanood nila kami on screen with different partners,” Judy Ann shared. “Kasi hindi pa nila maga-grasp ’yung idea na we’re actors doing different roles…”

The young parents, whose kids Yohan and Lucho are aged 10 and three, respectively, impose strict rules on their kids where watching television is concerned.

“Kung ano ’yung pinapanood nila we make it a point na nandoon kami; kung hindi ako, si Ryan,” Judy Ann said.

“’Yung mga angels (househelp) namin sa bahay na nakatutok sa kanila ay may responsibillity rin. Kasi kaisa kami sa isang bangka sa pagpapalaki sa mga anak namin. Hindi naman 24/7 ay nandodoon kami to guide (our children).”

The couple being hands-on with their children’s welfare made it easy for the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) to convince the two to appear in their latest infomercial urging parents to be more aware of the information their children are imbibing through television and to be mindful of MTRCB’s classification ratings.

“We didn’t have a hard time accepting the infomercial,” Judy Ann maintained. “Noong sinabi sa amin ito (infomercial), ‘Okay go, wala namang problema diyan. Kailan tayo magsisimula?’”

Hoping to use their status as leverage in educating other parents, she noted, “Hindi madaling magpalaki ng anak but you can do it with right guidance na maibibigay natin sa mga bata.”

Ryan has the same sentiment. “Hindi stranger sa atin ’yung problema na uuwi tayo ng bahay na merong mga anak, mga kapatid na mas bata o mga pamangkin, they would say a word na magugulat na lang tayo (kung paano nila nalaman),” he said.

“Lahat naman tayo bilang media practitioners, we have that responsibility to make sure the media is properly introduced to our children. Nasa sa atin ’yun kung paano sila turuan na ma-accept nang tama kung ano man ang stimuli na pumapasok sa mga bata,” he added.
