Twenty-two year old Ali Forbes believes it is important to have a mentor when carving a career in beauty pageantry.

“If you have a mentor, you’ll have someone telling you if what you’re doing is wrong. You’ll also have someone telling you what your strengths are, even your weaknesses,” the Miss Grand International 2013 third runner-up turned host of GMA News TV’s “Pinay Beauty Queen Academy” explained during a recent interview.

She added, “It’s important to know the mistakes you’re committing so you can improve yourself.”

Ali had a chance to mentor up-and-coming talents when she was hired by TV Executive Wilma Galvante to be a Program Director for Modeling and Personality Development for the Asian Academy of Television Arts.

“It was quite an experience sharing what I know especially since I was only too willing to impart my knowledge regarding modeling and beauty pageants. I’m always willing to be a mentor because I want to help aspiring beauty contestants or artists grow in their field,” she remarked.

Ali also admitted to learning a lot from her interaction with the contestants of “Pinay Beauty Queen Academy.”

She intimated, “You’d hear stories of financially challenged women who, despite their status, strive hard to reach their dreams. Or even women who weren’t allowed by their parents to join (beauty pageants) but fought for their dreams.”

Ali wants to branch out as singer some day.

“Singing remains to be my first love. But as of now, I’m focusing on improving my hosting skills. Who knows, maybe God will finally allow me come out with my debut album soon.”

At this point, she’d rather leave everything to Illustria Films, which manages her career.

In any case, Ali is currently busy preparing for another edition of “Pinay Beauty Queen Academy.”

The Reality TV show will have 40 aspiring beauty candidates facing “tough challenges.” The winner gets to represent the Philippines at the 2015 Miss Grand International in Bangkok, Thailand.

“It’s going to be more exciting because PBQA will have regional searches,” she quipped.
