Braver, bolder Maja?

Maja Salvador

Fans are excited to see Maja Salvador on her ABS-CBN soap, “Bridges of Love,” thanks to its recently released teaser. In it, the 26-year-old actress-singer is shown dancing in a sexy two-piece bikini.

Maja understands why her followers are thrilled but downplays the notion she’s out to reinvent herself. “Hindi ko naman ginawa ’yon dahil nagpapa-sexy ako,” she maintained. “Ano siya, para siyang art na may konting twist, konting spice.”

Although she admits it is her “bravest” role so far, it is not as sexually charged as some people might think. She stresses the soap, which also stars Jericho Rosales and Paulo Avelino, is more about “brotherhood.”

“Mas kuwento ito ng magkapatid. Si Jericho and Paulo ay pinaghiwalay. May kwento siya, may puso.”

Asked if boyfriend Gerald Anderson tried to stop her from taking the part, Maja shared, “Alam naman niya ’yon. Sa amin namang dalawa, work is work. Bubusina ka lang, konting respeto. Dapat siya ang nakaaalam bago ang lahat.”

According to Maja, everything is rosy between her and Gerald, although she says they didn’t get to spend Valentine’s Day together. Gerald was scheduled to fly out of the country for work.

“Nag-work out lang kami ng umaga, nag-lunch and then pumunta na siya sa airport,” she said. As Valentine’s gift, Gerald gave her “flowers and love.”

Apart from her upcoming soap, Maja has been relaunched as brand ambassador of Sisters Sanitary Napkins and Pantyliners.

The actress says she was able to provide input on the product that she really hopes would benefit women, whom she acknowledges can be moody at these times, and it manifests in a number of ways.

“Merong malambing, may masungit… sa isang araw ay lahat ng emosyon yata ay mararamdaman mo. May masaya, may malungkot na wala naming dahilan. Ang mga babae ay may topak talaga, eh, lalo na’t may period,” she shared.

Maja herself isn’t immune to this. “(Minsan) malungkot (ako), parang mababa ’yung energy,” she related, adding that at time, she craves for different kinds of food.

“Matindi akong mag-crave. Alam kong magkakaroon na ako ng period kapag nagke-crave na ako ng kung anu-ano,” she related, adding that “last week, nagki-crave ako ng crispy pata. Sa isang buong week ay parang crispy pata ang kinakain ko.”

She hopes the product she’s endorsing would help women like her deal with their most uncomfortable time of the month. (With report from Jojo P. Panaligan)
