Sorry guys, Korean TV and radio personality Jinri Park is already taken.
Jinri, who is known for her sexy magazine spreads, has been in a relationship with actor Cholo Barretto for some months now. Cholo is a nephew of Barretto sisters Claudine, Gretchen and Marjorie. The couple got to know each other at a gym.
“I was introduced to him by the owner of the gym where I was working out. When I came back from Korea, I asked him if he still goes to the gym. It was not because I liked him, I just wanted a gym buddy,” Jinri told reporters in an interview at the set of her online show “JINRIlationships” produced by TV5’s Digital5.
Having different cultural backgrounds is not a problem between the couple. Jinri is accustomed to Filipino culture, having been staying in the Philippines since she was just six years old.
“I’m more of a Filipina in the inside. But there are some issues that we have a problem with, he tells me, like, ‘it’s the Filipino way.’ I get it, but he insists that it is. So, I let it go,” he said.
Jinri shared that she likes a guy who is driven, family-oriented and takes care of his family. She is proud that Cholo has all these qualities.
Describing their relationship, Jinri said, “It’s very laid-back. I am uptight and he’s laid back. So it works, there’s balance. I’m really active. I like hiking, adventures. He’s a beach-have-a-beer kind of person. We’re very opposite.”
Compared to Korean men, Jinri thinks Filipino men are “very relaxed and open-minded.”
“Very chill. They (Filipino men) don’t dictate. We’re like in the same line. In Korea, there’s this culture where the males are superior,” she said.
While being in an intercultural relationship is not a problem between the couple, Jinri admitted that it could be an issue for her parents. Being “traditional,” her parents prefer that she have a Korean boyfriend. Thus, Jinri hasn’t introduced Cholo to her parents as yet.
“With my parents, they are more close-minded. It’s so hard to get through them, especially compared to Cholo’s parents and his family. I haven’t told them (about our relationship) yet, my sister knows though. I’m just scared because my family is very traditional Korean. They prefer a Korean guy for me. So I’m just kinda scared to introduce him, but I’m planning to do it real soon,” she said.
Jinri feels grateful to have a supportive boyfriend in Cholo. As they are both from showbiz, Cholo understands if she has to do sexy roles or photo shoots.
“Of course, he doesn’t like it but he understands also. He’s also in the industry so he knows also how it works. He’s very understanding. I talk to him about it from time to time, especially when I do sexy shoots. I explain na it’s my job and it’s part of who I am. It’s part of what I do and what I kinda enjoy doing also. All of the episodes consist of my experiences, I’m the one who pitch in the stories,” she said.
Jinri has been doing comedy roles and would also like to try other genres, such as horror and romantic-comedy. She previously starred in Vic Sotto’s sitcom “Vampire Ang Daddy Ko.” She may be known for her sexy image, but Jinri has some limitations.
“I wouldn’t want to do too much sexy, like making love in front of the camera. When it comes to kissing, I think he understands,” she said.
In 2013, Jinri left the Philippines to study acting and theater in Korea. Despite being in her home country, Jinri had a hard time adjusting to Korean culture. Apparently, Philippines “feels more like home” for Jinri.
“I tried living in Korea for awhile. It didn’t work out because I had a hard time adjusting to the culture. Besides, all my friends are in the Philippines,” she said.
