Los Angeles – It was a double treat for us when we met and interviewed the two Chris – Evans and Hemsworth – for the latest installment in the blockbuster franchise, “Avengers: Age Of Ultron.”
“Just call me Chris One and him, Chris Two,” joked Evans to which Hemsworth immediately replied, “No, it’s the other way around.”
Chris Evans, also known as Steve Rogers or Captain America in the blockbuster franchise, is the more “serious” one. Chris Hemsworth, also known as Thor in the Marvel Studios superhero film, is the more playful and loud one. Hemsworth would act out something and Evans would laugh at most of his buddy’s antics.
So why do they think audiences are getting so hooked to the franchise which is getting bigger and bigger, we asked.
“You’ve got the Sexiest Man Alive,” quipped Evans, referring to his Australian friend Hemsworth who was chosen by People Magazine in 2014 to have that title.
“You’ve got Captain America,” replied Hemsworth, referring to his American buddy Evans. He further explained, “It’s storytelling isn’t it and for all existence, we love telling stories in one form or another and this is heightened reality. It also has stories about heroes and justice and injustice and so on. This captures the imaginations of kids and adults and all of us and I included. We can’t help but are swept up in it. I certainly feel like a fan with this whole phenomenon.”
Directed by Joss Whedon, the superhero film is based on the Marvel Comics superhero team the Avengers.
Asked if they felt like they have job security being part of the Marvel universe, Evans replied, “You always want to make sure. Marvel has been very good to both of us and that’s a great thing. In many ways, it has opened many doors.
“The thing about acting is, it’s a hot and cold business. Doors open, they close. So it’s the type of thing where you have to try. It’s a tricky journey to navigate, because you want to continue creating.
“We are creators. We are artists. We are people who like to perform and you want to make sure that lasts. And it’s just a matter of to each his own really, whether or not that means doing as much work as you can now or try to maybe carve new paths in other avenues. But make sure that you don’t sour or expire in the other realm where you are relevant. It’s a tricky thing.”
Hemsworth added, “Humility is what is important because it keeps you hungry. It keeps you searching and wanting to improve, advance and grow. So a little uncertainty is not a bad thing. Fear is pretty good motivation.”
So if they landed in the Philippines as an Avenger, what would they do?
“Go to a disco and eat good food,” Hemsworth replied.
“Surf. Go to the beaches definitely,” Evans retorted.
What is their routine to get that Avenger body? And do they work out together?
Evans confessed, “I used to work out together with the guys. I did that during the first Avengers but not anymore. I thought I was doing well in the gym. I work out solo now. I wish my routine was something more exciting but it’s just picking up heavy stuff and lifting them.”
Hemsworth replied, “We just pick up each other and we throw each other across the set.” (Photos by Ruben V. Nepales)
