Brazilian supermodel Adriana Lima is among thousands of international celebrities in awe of Pinoy pugilist Manny Pacquiao.
Unlike other fans who simply enjoy watching Pacquiao demolish his opponents, however, Lima actually took her idol worship one step further: By taking on boxing as a sport.
This she stated in an episode of the Fox Sports talk show “Crowd Goes Wild” that aired Nov. 22 in the US.
“Boxing is something that became my passion,” Lima says as quoted in the episode, whose footage has since gone viral on YouTube with over 212,000 hits.
A highlight of the episode was Lima getting the chance to hobnob with Pacquiao himself.
“I can’t believe it,” she gushed when she saw the Pacman. “This is, like, my dream!”
Pacquiao showed Lima some of his boxing moves, going on to praise the 32-year-old model for her “strong” jabs.
Lima returned the favor by teaching the fighting congressman how to walk the ramp.
Meanwhile, back home, Pacquiao is making a different kind of noise. The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has reportedly frozen the boxing champ’s bank accounts relating to his alleged failure to remit P2.2 billion in back taxes.
Pacquiao appealed to the bureau to cancel the warrant, insisting that he is more than willing to face his responsibilities.
Joining the ruckus is the boxing superstar’s mother, the occasional actress Mommy Dionesia, who told “Umagang Kay Ganda” that she felt bad that the BIR would do this to her son.
She lamented, “Tumingin ako sa TV kahapon, umiiyak ako. Kawawa naman ang anak ko. Lumaban siya, nabawi na niya ang pagkatalo, siya pa ang nagbigay ng karangalan ng Pilipinas, bakit ginulo pa sa mga BIR?”
Mommy Dionesia believes freezing her son’s bank accounts is unfair because his money was not stolen from the government.
“Ang pera na itinago ni Manny sa bangko, hindi niya ninakaw. Kita niya ito sa pagbo-boxing, pawis at dugo para makaipon ng pera. Hindi pero ng gobyerno ang ninakaw niya. Bakit ganyan ang nangyari?” she said.
