Alden throws b-day bash at home for children

Aside from the haircut and bathrobe he got as gifts for himself on his actual 22nd birthday last Jan. 3, Kapuso actor Alden Richards took time off from taping his upcoming GMA series “Carmela” to throw a bash at the Holy Trinity Home for Children early this week.

His second consecutive time to do so at the home, arranged this year for him by GMA Artist Center (GMAAC), Alden brought food and gifts with help from sponsors and he played games with the orphans.

“Last year, nangako ako na bibisitahin ko sila uli kaya tinupad ko iyon. At a young age, they lack the leisure of pagiging bata. Hindi nila nararanasan yon kasi nga wala silang magulang or iniwan ng magulang or minamaltrato ng magulang so, in a way, kahit paano ay may nagsympathize din sa kanila. Gusto kong makatulong mabigyan sila kahit ng panandaliang happiness though this,” he said in an interview.

Alden and family usually celebrate his birthday just by hearing mass, since it falls right after two major holidays.

“Kasi nag Pasko na, nag New Year na. Sobra-sobra na. ‘Yung handa ng New Year, ‘yun na rin yung handa sa birthday para tipid,” said the actor, who is saving up to start an apartment and chip in for a restaurant business, and to buy his own house, especially after their current one got flooded recently.

These are feasible plans. Emerging as one of Kapuso’s most popular and bankable actor in 2013, Alden is expected to turn out a huge hit with “Carmela” especially because her leading lady on the series is the network’s top female talent, Marian Rivera.

“Masarap, masaya pong katrabaho si Yan (Marian). Gusto talaga naming mag-work ‘yung onscreen chemistry namin. Noong simula, tinatawag ko siyang ‘ate’ pero ngayon, hindi na para wala ng restrain, wala ng walls, wala ng inhibitions,” he said.

The actor looks forward to doing his love scenes with Marian because it could be “one of the biggest breaks in my career.”

“First time ko po yun kung sakali at kay Marian Rivera pa. Ready na po ako,” he said.

Those who expect Alden to fall for Marian, though, are bound to get disappointed. While Alden finds Marian as any guy’s dream girl, the former is close friends with her boyfriend, actor Dingdong Dantes. In fact, when Alden and Dingdong we’re still doing the defunct series “My Beloved,” Alden said that Dingdong thought he ought to do a project with her.

“At yun na nga, nangyari na po,” Alden quipped, smiling.

More than that, Alden is just too focused on his career and family to even think about romance.

“Pag settled na po ‘yung family ko, dun na lang. Yun ‘yung ultimatum ko. Pag ok na… pag may bahay na kami tapos pag well off na ‘yung kapatid kong dalawa at tsaka ok na ‘yung dad at lola at lolo ko… yun na. Sana soon, pero sa ngayon ay wala pa akong na-a-eye (na babae) kasi I consider it as distraction pa as of the moment.”

Is he boyfriend material, we asked.

“Yun din po ang isang reason na ayaw ko pa ma-hook sa isang relationship. Kasi todo ako mainlove eh. Na-evaluate ko ‘yung sarili ko… ipagpapalit ko talaga lahat for love.”

Belo, Kakao Talk, Skechers, Folded and Hung, Waffle Time, Minute Burger, Zagu and Tous Les Jours supported Alden’s party at Holy Trinity Home for Children. “Carmela” will start airing on Jan. 27.
