Almost two years in the making, and almost not pushing through, finally “Sa Ngalan ng Ama, Ina at Mga Anak” is now showing in theaters nationwide.
Star Cinema, in partnership with RCP Productions, is releasing the movie described as “the most explosive action-packed family drama of the year” as part of Star Cinema’s ongoing 20th anniversary celebration.
Hot on the heels of his Best Actor win in the 2013 Metro Manila Film Festival (for “10,000 Hours”), Robin Padilla plays the lead role of Ongkoy in this period film set in the turbulent ’70s that aims to address the truth and the lies that shrouded the “Kuratong Baleleng” controversy. Directed by Jon Villarin, it valiantly proves that love of family and country will always prevail despite troublesome times.
At the press conference, Robin said, “This is a family movie, hindi ito basta action film lang na may mga barilan o patayan. Kung malayo kayo sa pamilya ninyo o wala kayo sa kanila, sobra kayong makaka-relate sa film na ito.”
Interestingly, “Sa Ngalan ng Ama, Ina at mga Anak” is pretty much a family affair that features several other members of the Padilla ctlan: Mariel Rodriguez-Padilla plays the wife of Ongkoy; Rommel Padilla and his three sons (Daniel, dubbed ABS-CBN’s Primetime Teen King, RJ and Matt); and Kylie and Bela Padilla, two top Kapuso teleserye stars. Plans to include Rustom Padilla (now BB Gandanghari) didn’t materialize; instead, BB will be doing a movie with Robin in the near future.
This is Robin and Daniel’s first big screen collaboration, and the former is very excited, knowing how big a star his nephew is now.
Daniel, who has remained the same “mabait” and simple guy despite his fame (“ang nagbago sa akin ’yung lang siguro mga damit ko,” he said) starred in “Pagpag: Siyam na Buhay,” said to be the highest grossing horror flick in the history of the Metro Manila Film Festival. He is the son of Rommel with actress Karla Estrada, who, incidentally, is also featured in “Sa Ngalan ng Ama, Ina, at Mga Anak.”
The movie also stars Christopher de Leon, Dina Bonnevie, Pen Medina, Lito Pimentel, Dennis Padilla, Aljur Abrenica and Bugoy Cariño, among others.
