Boy Abunda
TV host and gay rights advocate Boy Abunda has taken offense at some of the things that have been said in relation to the rumored romance between gay comedian Vice Ganda and PBA basketball player Terrence Romeo.
In an article on sports website Spin.ph, published Friday, where Romeo denied the rumor, the basketball star’s father, William Romeo, was quoted as saying, “Si Terrence talagang tinuturuan ko ’yan ng katuturan… Pinaiiwas ko siya sa mga bagay na hindi mabuti.”
Abunda noted on “The Buzz,” Sunday, that while he respects the elder Romeo, “I don’t respect your opinion.”
He went on to say, “If that (quote) was a reference to gays, kayo po’y nagkakamali dahil… hindi po equivalent ang hindi mabuti sa pagiging bakla dahil that’s unfair.” He added, “Nakakasakit po ’yan sa amin. Ang sakit pakinggan.”
Abunda stressed that the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) community deserves respect and love just like everybody else.
In the same report on the website, the 22-year-old former FEU varsity player was also quoted: “Sana matapos na ’yung isyu na ’yan, dahil paulit ulit lang naman na hindi katotohanan! Isang multo ’yan ng imahe ko na gusto ko nang mabura totally.”
Abunda responded to this by saying, “We understand what image is all about, we understand what brand personality is all about. ’Wag naman kaming isali doon sa brand equity. Sana’y matuto ho tayong tignan ang kapwa bilang tao, hindi sa kanyang sexual orientation o gender identity.”
Kris defends her friend
Co-host Kris Aquino, Vice’s close friend, also dismissed rumors that the comedian gave a condominium unit and Hummer SUV to the basketball star.
“There’s no truth (to) the Hummer (rumors) because kakasakay lang namin sa Hummer ni Vice so walang binigay na Hummer. Hindi rin totoo ’yung condominium,” she shared.
She also added, “They’re really friends. In fact, I think, Vice is handling the situation very well.”
Vice and Romeo has already denied romantic links between them.
