With his two-year old album entitled “So It’s You” having already reached Platinum status, Xian Lim is now out with a new CD called “XL2.”

Released under Star Records, “XL2” is deemed as a riskier and bolder move from the nouveau songwriter.

This is because “XL2” contains nine cuts, eight of which are all original compositions. From the eight, three were written by Xian. These are “Alay Ko Sa ‘Yo,” “Kung Di Sa Iyo” and “Iibigin.” The only cover is “ Si Aida, Si Lorna o Si Fe,” a song popularized by Marco Sison in the 80’s.

Xian, also a popular TV and movie actor, expressed that his album is worth listening to because of the new original songs.

As a songwriter and recording artist, he admitted that he was nervous coming out with an album dominated by original tunes.

“Nakakakaba naman talaga kapag gumagawa ka ng isang kanta kasi hindi mo alam kung tatanggapin ng mga tao o hindi,” he quipped.

What makes him confident as a songwriter is that he believes in his compositions. Most importantly, he knows that his fans would appreciate his songs because they’ll known more about him.

“I always tell people that my compositions are pieces of me. Parte ng buhay ko ‘yun na ibinabahagi ko rin sa mga kanta ko,” he shared.

The other original songs in his album are “Di Bale” by Arnie Mendaros, “Keep in Mind (K.I.M.)” by Soc Villanueva, “Pag May Time” by Rox B. Santos, “Ikaw Na” by Edwin Marollano and “Bakit Hindi Ka Crush ng

Crush Mo” by Jungee Marcelo.

According to Xian, among these songs, his favorite is “Di Bale.”

He explained, “Kasi sa lahat ng mga kinanta ko ito ‘yung upbeat and pwedeng sayawan ng mga tao. Nakaka-happy lang talaga ‘yung vibe.”

With regards to “Keep in Mind” or “K.I.M.,” he made clear that it is not about Kim Chiu. Not like “Ako’y Sa ‘Yo Lamang,” the first song he composed for the soap opera “My Binondo Girl,” which was inspired by Kim Chiu.

“Written by Soc Villanueva, it was based on how me and Kim are on television, based ‘yun sa ipina-pakita naming mga actions. So swak na swak sa amin,” he shared.

With the release of “XL2,” Xian will soon be busy with mall tours and shows. With a new contract with ABS-CBN, in the works for him is a new teleserye with Jessy Mendiola and two movies with Kim Chiu under Star

Cinema. What else can Xian Lim ask for?

“A concert, ‘yun ang pinagdadasal kung mangyari,” Xian replied.
