TIME has published its list of the 25 Best Songs of 2014 and it includes Girls’ Generation’s “Mr.Mr.”
“The year is only half over — but it’s never too early to start rounding up the strongest tracks of 2014. Halfway through 2014, there’s already an embarrassment of riches in the realm of music — from blockbuster pop singles to epic indie ballads, ace songs from artists both new and established have provided the year with an exceptional soundtrack,” according to Time.com.
Among other songs in the list are Ariana Grande’s “Problem,” Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me,” Allie X’s “Catch,” Mo’s “Don’t Wanna Dance,” Future Islands’ “Seasons (Waiting for You),” Rita Ora’s “I Will Never Let You Down,” Beck’s “Blue Moon,” St. Vincent’s “Digital Witness,” and Royskopp & Robyn’s “Do It Again.”
Also in the list are Sun Kil Moon’s “Carissa,” Tove Lo’s “Stay High,” Chromeo’s “Jealous (I Ain’t With It),” Miguel’s “Simplethings,” Girls Generation’s “Mr. Mr.,” Mariah Carey’s “Make It Look Good,” Sia’s “Chandelier,” Michael Jackson and Justin Timberlake’s “Love Never Felt So Good,” Against Me!’s “Transgender Dysphoria Blues,” The Pains of Being Pure at Heart’s “Kelly,” Schoolboy Q’s “Break The Bank,” Real Estate’s “Talking Backwards,” Lykke Li’s “No Rest for the Wicked,” Todd Terje’s “Delorean Dynamite,” Indiana’s “Solo Dancing” and Future featuring Pusha T and Pharrell Williams’ “Move That Dope.”
TIME described “Mr.Mr.” as a “dance-friendly” track with “a hint of darkness.”
“Fans of K-pop juggernaut Girls’ Generation (a.k.a. SNSD) won’t be disappointed by their latest dance-friendly single, and the addition of a scratchy electronic bass line and a hint of darkness should even attract listeners who don’t dig their usual bubblegum sound,” wrote TIME.
“Mr.Mr.” is the title track of Girls’ Generation’s fourth mini-album that was released last February.
The single achieved an “all-kill” status in Korean music download sites upon its release while the album shot to No. 1 position on iTunes in 15 countries including the Philippines.
It also reached the top spot on Gaon’s Singles and Download Singles charts.
“Mr.Mr.” was also No. 1 on Gaon Chart’s weekly and monthly albums chart and peaked at No. 110 on Billboard 200 and No. 1 on the World Albums chart.
Last December, TIME chose Girls’ Generation’s “I Got A Boy” as one of 2013′s Top 10 Songs.
