Vivid and riveting is how Atty. Jose C. Sison describes his show “Ipaglaban Mo” which returns to ABS-CBN 15 years after ending its run. It premieres on June 7, Saturday afternoon after “It’s Showtime.”
The new “Ipaglaban Mo” which is under Ruel S. Bayani’s Drama Unit, will feature cases already discussed by in his column. And what breathes new life to the cases chosen is the roster of directors chosen to helm the respective stories for TV.
Bayani explained, “ABS-CBN has the biggest pool of writers and directors. Siyempre dito namin gustong i-showcase ito sa isa na namang drama anthology katulad nito. Makikita ninyo sa ipinakitang anim na capsules, six different and individualistic episodes na ‘yun ang magandang i-explore sa ‘Ipaglaban Mo.’
“Tinatanong namin sa mga directors kung gusto nila yung ganitong episode kasi gusto rin naming malaman kung may discomfort sila sa subject matter. So far naman wala tayong problema sa mga ABS-CBN directors kasi nga mga gladiators, mga warriors yan na sanay na sanay sa mga iba’t ibang tema at iba’t ibang hamon.”
The directors of “Ipaglaban Mo” are Cong. Lino Cayetano, Eric Quizon, Ricky Rivero, Rechie del Carmen, Erik Salud, and Manny Palo among others. Manny Palo’s episode titled “Hindi Ko Sinasadya Yaya” will be the show’s maiden episode on June 7.
The episode stars Izzy Canillo who plays the main character RJ, a seven year old who accidentally shot dead his nanny Yaya Miling played by Shamaine Buencamino. Yaya Miling’s only child Micmic played by Michelle Vito then sought justice for her mother. Also in the cast are Lara Quigaman, James Blanco, and Dionne Monsanto.
“Hindi Ko Sinasadya Yaya” talks about children’s rights and the age of discernment. And it answers the questions how can Micmic get justice if the accused was a minor and the crime was an accident?
“Iba’t ibang directors po ang gagawa ng mga episodes and ABS-CBN po ang may say diyan. Maganda po ang mga productions kaya swerte kaming nakabalik sa ABS-CBN. Mas na-dedicate ang mga tunay na nangyari sa mga kaso,” said Sison.
“Ipaglaban Mo” is co-hosted by his son, Atty. Jopet S. Sison “para mas maging Kapamilya, kasama ko na anak ko.” Atty. Jopet S. Sison was a former Quezon City Councilor and the Assistant General Manager of the National Housing Authority and the President of the National Home Mortgage Finance Corporation. He is also a part of the Ipaglaban Mo Foundation.
According to Sison, he’s been wanting “Ipaglaban Mo” to return to television. It had a short stint on GMA News TV until 2013.
“Matagal ko po talagang gustong ibalik ang palabas namin dahil alam ko na maraming natutulungan. Maraming mga mamamayan natin na nakaka-relate doon sa mga kasong pinapalabas. Kaya ang tingin ko kung ibabalik ko ito, makakatulong ulit kami ng mabuti sa pagbabalik ng maganda at maayos na lipunan.
“Dahil ngayon po nakikita natin na medyo na naman nagiging maraming crimes na nangyayari. Maraming hindi kanais-nais na mga nangyayari kaya siguro ang pagbabalik ng ipaglalaban mo makakatulong maibsan mga bagay na ito.”
He added that the episodes were based on cases already decided on by the Supreme Court.
“’Pag na-desisyonan na puwedeng ipalabas dahil alam ninyo yung mga kasong ito na decided na ng Supreme Court bahagi na ng batas ng ating bansa. Kaya maaaring i-air ang mga yun. Parang public service program nga ang nangyayari rito dahil yung mga batas natin, pinapaliwanag natin ayun sa pagpapaliwanag ng Supreme Court,” he said.
Bayani seconded Atty. Jose C. Sison, saying, “Katulad noong una pa, all cases are all decided cases by the Supreme Court. Unfortunately hindi kami pwedeng magpalabas ng mga controversial na celebrated cases na wala pang Supreme Court decision dahil pwedeng ma-TRO or mademanda and mawawala ang focus sa public service or sa totoong vision ng show.”
