Vertical Horizon returns to Manila for a show on June 5 at Newport Performing Arts Theater of the Resorts World Manila.
Founder, writer, lead singer and guitarist Matt Scannell says the group is always open to exploring new territories of inspiration. Perhaps the most significant key to Vertical Horizon’s success today is being free from the constraints of a major recording label.
VERTICAL HORIZON
Founded in the early 1990s as a duo, Vertical Horizon has released three albums independently (“There And Back Again,” “Running On Ice,” and “Live Stages”) and toured extensively.
In 1999, Vertical Horizon experienced success with “Everything You Want,” selling over two million copies. The title song captured the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 and Adult Top 40 charts, and went on to become the most played single of 2000. Their songs “You’re A God” and “Best I Ever Had (Grey Sky Morning)” were also hits.

AEGIS, OTHER OPM STARS AT CF THIS JUNE
JULIET AND Mercy Sunot of Aegis
Aegis and other OPM icons will stage free concerts in different Casino Filipino (CF) branches during the month-long “Epic Pinoy Celebration” this June. Its monthly themed entertainment offerings will be simultaneously launched today in its various branches and satellites nationwide.
Aegis will perform at CF-Parañaque on June 6; CF Olongapo on June 7; CF Pavilion on June 20; CF Angeles on June 21; and CF Tagaytay on June 27.
The featured celebrities during the “Epic Pinoy Celebration” launch on June 4 include Le Chaz (CF Angeles), Carmen Soriano (CF Hyatt), Jun Polistico (CF Iloilo), JC Parker (Madison Satellite), Victor Wood (CF Parañaque), and Osang (CF Pavilion).
The second wave of the monthly themed celebration will be launched on June 6 with shows from Renz Verano (CF Cebu), Blakdyak (CF Davao), Isabel Granada (Malabon Satellite), Jayson Fernandez (Ronquillo Arcade), and Le Chaz (CF Tagaytay).

‘BUHAYANI FESTIVAL’ IN CALAMBA

More than P1.5 million cash prizes are up for grabs for participants in the weeklong “Buhayani Festival” in Calamba City from June 12-19, 2014.
Calamba City Mayor Timmy Chipeco said the “Buhayani Festival” (or “buhay bayani”) is the first of its kind in the city. It was inspired by the National Hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal, who was born in Calamba City and spent much of his childhood there. The mayor invited people to “join us in honoring him on his birthday and in celebrating the modern Rizal and to foster the spirit of heroism that lives in every Filipino.”
The festival features Larong Pinoy, Martza de Rizal Band competition, Hawig-Rizal, Saranggolahan ni Pepe, Calambike-fest, Short Films competiton, Buhayani Sayawindak, and the Bayani Float Parade.
