The family of the late veteran actor Mark Gil has opted to keep his ashes despite the latter’s wish to have it scattered over Montemar Beach in Bataan.

His 36-year-old son Gabby Eigenmann explained the decision based on a friend’s advice.

“Baka raw hindi matahimik ‘yung kaluluwa ni daddy so we decided na hindi na lang (ikalat ang abo). We’ll keep it for a while,” he said in a recent interview.

The urn, he said, is currently with Mark’s wife, Maricar Jacinto-Eigenmann, but there are plans to inter it in a columbarium soon.

Gabby shared that each member of their family bought pendants in which they keep a pinch of Mark’s ashes.

Last Sept. 25, the family was in Montemar Beach to commemorate Mark’s 53rd birth anniversary.

“Ito naman ang gusto niya (dad), he’s very particular about us celebrating his life. Ang gusto niya pa nga, kung puwede daw na overflowing ‘yung alcohol eh. That’s what he loves talaga, eh,” Gabby said.

While they usually celebrate Mark’s memory in a “fun way,” Gabby intimated that when he is alone, “I just take a look at his picture.”

“Its either I cry or I smile or I do both. ‘Yun lang naman ‘yun, I do it every day,” he added. “(I miss) everything. His laughter, I miss watching him on TV too.”

On Andi’s heartbreak

Gabby refused to comment on the issue concerning his sister Andi Eigenmann’s alleged breakup with Jake Ejercito.

If anything, Gabby simply said that he’s got Andi’s back.

“We’ll always support each other. We’ll always try to guide one another, draw strength from each other. When someone’s down, you don’t let them stay down. You try to lift them. Ngayon, may kanya-kanyang issues na dumadating sa buhay, kanya-kanya rin kaming way na mag-move on, nag-uusap kami gabi-gabi,” he shared.

He said Maxene Eigenmann and Sid Lucero also look after Andi.

Gabby finds it opportune that he is busy with work nowadays.

“At least you keep yourself busy and you’re doing what you love, and what my dad loves is to entertain people so ‘yun (trabaho) ‘yung medyo nagda-drive sa akin to move on,” he said.

Gabby stars on the GMA-7 drama series “Dading.” He plays the role of Carding, a gay man raising the love child of his best friend (Glaiza de Castro).

The show, said Gabby, gave him a lot of realizations. “For one, that gay people know how to give good advice. Para kasing they understand both sides, lalaki or babae. And they’re so much fun. Sabi ko nga sa friend ko na bading, ‘No wonder people enjoy you guys being around kasi aside from nagpapatawa kayo, pagdating sa serious stuff, you also give good advice,’” he said.

Gabby shared that he is now thinking of putting up a resto staffed with gay people.

A source of pride for Gabby is that “Dading” has been helping some closeted gays to come out.
