There is never a lack of showbiz romances, whether real or imagined. Erik Santos has definitely had his share of this, notably now with Angeline Quinto, with whom he is being romantically linked.
Without mincing words, Santos easily admitted, “Ah, si Angeline, very special sa akin ’yan.”
What that really means is anyone’s guess, but the touted Prince of Pop declared, “Lagpas na kami sa getting to know each other stage.”
This is fortuitous for Santos, who counts Quinto among his guests in his upcoming concert, along with good friends Yeng Constantino, Ai Ai delas Alas, Pops Fernandez and Regine Velasquez.
Of his upcoming concert billed “Intense,” Santos noted, “This is in celebration of my tenth year anniversary in show business. A sort of thank you for the fans who have supported me through the years. Hindi biro ang umabot na ganito katagal sa showbiz lalo na sa panahon ngayon so I’m really thankful,” he said noting that he will pull all stops to allow the fans the best entertainment possible.
“I will do all the songs na minahal nila, including movie and teleserye themes but aside from that, sasayaw din ako dito. Marami kaming surprises dito actually,” he intimated.
Clearly, he is up to doing anything to please his fans, including the fact that he won’t shy away from pushing his artistic boundaries.
“Siyempre kasi kung wala sila, wala rin ako eh, so I owe it to them, I owe my career to them,” he told Bulletin Entertainment.
In fact, Santos revealed he is even willing to take on acting jobs in the near future, albeit not without a precedent.
“Actually, lumabas na ako sa ‘MMK’ for two episodes na rin before, pero ‘yun nga as I said, I want to keep surprising din ‘yung fans. So, kung willingness sa papgpasok sa acting ang usapan, ang sagot ko diyan is, yes, I am very much willing,” he expounded.
However, Santos draws the line on gay roles, admitting, “Baka hindi ko kayanin lalo na kung tipong may intimate scenes.”
He added, “I leave it up to real actors talaga ‘pag dating sa ganyan. Ako naman eh, sumusubok lang, hindi naman ‘yung tipong kakare-rin ko talaga ‘yung acting.”
Santos, who is a member of a Christian fellowship group, nevertheless insisted, “Just to be clear, I have nothing against the gay community. I respect and understand them. Ang point ko lang is that when it comes to gay roles, I’d rather not (do it) kasi I might no be able to give it justice kung sakali man.”
Considering a slight career shift aside, Santos insists he will never let go of his singing. “Dito ako nagustuhan at minahal ng mga tao so tuloy tuloy ito and I promise, I will keep on trying to better myself as a singer.”
He is, however, open to veering away from his pop roots. “Eh, kung ‘yun ang gusto ng mga fans, why not?
“Gaya nga ng sinabi ko, mahal ko sila and I owe them my career so, if they feel like they want me to do dance or whatever, I will try it… For now (though), ang approach ko (to singing) is to try and tell stories through my songs. Tama na siguro ‘yung mga delivery na tipong lumilipad, ngayon I’m more into conveying emotions na rather than ‘yung puro birit. Mas subtle na singing.”
Santos’ upcoming concert, “Intense,” is set on Nov. 9 at the PICC Plenary Hall.
