Is eating chocolate really better than having sex? Have you ever found yourself biting into a piece of chocolate and saying afterwards, “Mmmmmmm, uhmmmm!” from the sheer pleasure of it? Is there really a scientific link between chocolate and sexual arousal?
I read an article in the Natural Health magazine titled “Naturally better sex” written by Michael Castleman and Jean Tuttle. They say that the endorphins that chocolate releases actually work to make the indulger feel happier and that these “signal feelings of well-being and happiness – and may help you become more receptive to sex.”
In a separate research in the ’80s, Donald F. Klein and Michael R. Liebowitz suggested that the brain of people in love produces a chemical called phenylethylamine (PEA), which triggers a release of the hormones norepinephrine and dopamine to create feelings of euphoria. Klein and Liebowitz theorized that since chocolate contains PEA, it may also make people feel happy and loving.
Another experiment about chocolate transpired in 2004. Researchers at a hospital in Milan, Italy questioned nearly 200 women about their consumption of chocolate and their feelings of sexual fulfillment. Result: Women who consumed chocolate daily reported a higher degree of sexual satisfaction (even those who normally have lower libido).
And believe it or not, chocolate is good for the heart. The same magazine Natural Health published an article titled “Good Reasons to Eat More Chocolate” that says dark chocolate contains antioxidants “that have been shown to improve vascular wall tone, lower blood pressure, and decrease blood-clotting risk by reducing platelet activity.”
A research study in Greece has also tested the benefits of chocolate. They concluded that in healthy adults, eating dark chocolate prevents stiffening…. of the heart’s arteries.
In writing about the benefits of eating chocolates, I suddenly developed a craving for dark chocolate so I headed to the second floor of the Newport Mall of Resorts World Manila where they have a September chocolate festival. As part of Thrillathon, RWM celebrates International Chocolate Day on Sept. 13, by offering a month choc-full of thrills. My expectations were met very well as RWM hosted renowned chocolatiers such as Machiavelli, Villa del Conte, Composite, Nestle and Bruges. Uhmmmm!
Marriott Café and Resorts World Manila’s very own Café Maxims also offers their lineup of sweet treats. The one-of-a-kind Chocolate Exhibit ends on Sept. 30.
The exhibit features chocolate in different forms such as chocolate-inspired clothing presented by different brands within RWM, photographs of decadent chocolate dishes, and ornate chocolate sculptures crafted by world-class chefs from Marriott Hotel Manila and Café Maxims, all of which guests can also purchase.
But your endorphins and serotonin will not only be released by chocolate when you go to Resorts World Manila. Singers Aia De Leon and Jay R will make you fall in love this Sept. 13. Paolo Avelino will make the women’s sexual drives rise like chocolate does on Sept. 14 as he performs together with Iya Villania. The mood of love increases as Richard Poon sings romantic ballads on Sept. 20, followed by Wency Cornejo and Liezel Garcia on Sept. 21, and it culminates with Kim Chiu and Rachelle Ann Go on Sept. 27.
Chocolates, singers and stars – enough reason for me to head again and again to RWM. How about you?
