A Hollywood Trade Bible Variety reviewer has applauded the Philippine’s official entry to the Oscars, “Transit.”
Richard Kuipers finds the Hannah Espia opus “gracefully directed, inventively edited look at the plight of Filipino immigrant workers in Israel,” adding that while the movie tells the life and the laws affecting immigrant Filipino workers in Israel, it also mirrors the people who left their homeland to seek for better future.
“Wisely resisting the temptation to tubthump on political themes, Espia and co-scripter Giancarlo Abrahan stay firmly focused on how such laws impact on human relationships,” he said.
The film critic noted the fine performance of the cast, especially their efforts to learn Hebrew online for the film. Kuipers seems to be amazed that “Transit” was filmed in less than two weeks considering the “smooth lensing,” the “lovely, subtle score” and, yes, the “clever editing.”
“The pic is constantly engaging and frequently moving,” he lauded.
“Transit” is currently in competition with 12 other Asian films under the New Currents section of the ongoing Busan International Film Festival.
