Taiwanese filmmaker Ang Lee, two-time winner of the Academy Award for Best Director, will come to the Philippines for the first time next week to attend a two-day event to be held in his honor.
The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in the Philippines, led by Representative Ambassador Raymond L.S. Wang, is spearheading “A Salute to Ang Lee” at the SM Aura on November 28 and 29.
TECO, in cooperation with the Film Development Council of the Philippines and Warner Bros. Philippines, will hold a special by-invitation screening of Lee’s 2011 film “Life of Pi” and an open forum with the celebrated director at SM Aura Cinema. The open forum will be attended by Filipino directors Tikoy Aguiluz, Brillante Mendoza, Erik Matti and other film enthusiasts.
Lee is the world’s most successful Asian filmmaker. He won the Oscar for best director in 2006 with “Brokeback Mountain” and again in 2013 with “Life of Pi”, which raked in over $500 million worldwide.
His other acclaimed films include “The Wedding Banquet”, “Eat Drink Man Woman”, “The Ice Storm”, “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”, and “Lust, Caution”.
