Being a new father, Prince of R&B Kris Lawrence dotes immensely on Katrence, his daughter with actress Katrina Halili.

“I am a loving and hands-on father. Ako ang nagtitimpla ng dede niya sa madaling araw when I’m home. I put her back to sleep. If she doesn’t want to sleep naman, maglalaro kami,” Kris told Bulletin Entertainment at the launch of his latest album “Spread The Love” under GMA Records.

Still, it doesn’t mean he spoils the tot rotten.

“I’m the disciplinarian kasi it looks like Kat is the spoiler. So kahit gusto ko i-spoil si Katrence, hindi puwede kasi walang balance. Parang good cop-bad cop, kahit na ayaw kong maging ‘bad guy,’ I have to be it.”

There are plans for Kris and Katrina to tie the knot but only when Katrence is a bit older.

“Gusto namin maging flower girl si Katrence sa kasal namin. Parang na-iimagine ko na when I’m there in the altar waiting for Kat to come down, tapos nakikita ko si Katie na nagsasaboy ng flowers tapos hindi niya alam ang ginagawa niya, ang cute, cute. Feeling ko maiiyak ako dun pa lang,” Kris said.

A Virgo, the singer believes everything has to be perfect.

“Perfectionist kasi ako, organized. Pag may nakikita nga ako na white floor tapos may nakita akong isang black speck dun, tatanggalin ko talaga. Sa pananamit maarte din ako.”

He has the same stance on “Spread The Love” that was done carefully especially since it contains mostly original songs 10 of which he himself wrote “na na-hold lang sa archives.”

“Kasi the previous album, it was released during the ‘revival’ trend. Everyone was releasing revival album so nakisali na din ako. But now is the right time for this one.”

According to a release, “Spread The Love” features songs that represents his life and struggles in recent years. Some of these have already been played on top Kapuso series including “My Husband’s Lover” and “Innocent Man.” Majority of the album tracks are in English and are piano-based.

Asked to describe his present state of mind, Kris said he’s very happy.

“I don’t think I’ve been this happy in a while. I feel less stressed. Siguro kasi, there’s the baby. She has brought a different energy to me, a certain happiness.”

Kris is managed by ALV Talent Circuit and he is a regular on “Sunday All Stars.”
