Fan mode on: Sugar Ray’s Mark McGrath posts to his Twitter account his photo with Journey’s Arnel Pineda
Sugar Ray’s Mark McGrath is a self-confessed fan of Journey front man Arnel Pineda, admitting as much on Sunday’s “ASAP” where he appeared live to promote their one-night concert with Smash Mouth and Gin Blossoms, set tonight at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Thanking the show’s audience for welcoming him on stage, McGrath sang a few lines of the Sugar Ray’s hit song “Someday” before exclaiming: “I met Arnel!”
Pointing to the backstage, he gushed, “I met Arnel right over there! Arnel Pineda, I am star struck. I don’t know what to do. He’s representing you Filipinos all over the world. I love Arnel!”
On his Twitter account (@mark_mcgrath), McGrath posted a photo of him and Pineda taken at the “ASAP” studio. His caption read: “Me and Arnel Pineda from Journey in Manila! Cool humble dude…”
McGrath, who arrived with his band mates in the country Saturday night, learned some Filipino words as well. Turning to the audience and with arms raised, he roared, “Mabuhay Kapamilya!”
This is Sugar Ray’s first visit to the Philippines and according to McGrath, “Everybody is so warm and generous and welcoming. It’s been a long overdue time for Sugar Ray to come here.”
“Thank you guys for all the love. The Filipino people are so kind,” the 45-year-old musician said, obviously thrilled over the reception they’ve gotten.
