Alden Richards
GMA Network’s 21-year-old matinee idol Alden Richards is on the cover of the September issue of Cosmopolitan Philippines’ Cosmo Men 2013 edition. This means fans are expecting more from him at this year’s Cosmo Bachelors Bash on Sept. 24 at the World Trade Center, Pasay City.
He will walk the ramp with “lean and mean” physique as with the rest of the 69 male models including his Kapuso colleagues Aljur Abrenica, Dennis Trillo and Tom Rodriguez.
This year’s Cosmo Bash is more exciting for Alden, but also most grueling in terms of his preparation. He loves eating Balot (he can finish three in one sitting), Adobo, Dinuguan, Binagoongang Baboy and Bopis so this diet coupled with his workout proved to be very challenging. He’s been training at the gym for two months now, adhering to a strict diet.
“Advice ng trainer ko hindi starvation. Kasi the more you starve yourself, tapos kakain ka ng marami pabigla-bigla the more you gain weight. Pag hindi ka kakain babagal ang metabolism mo, hindi mo natutunaw agad and food intake mo. So ako every three hours ang pagkain ko,” he said.
He stays away from rice and has added more fruits and nuts to his diet. Though physically rewarding for Alden, he looks forward to the time Cosmo Bash culminates so he can go back to eating rice again and his favorite Pinoy dishes mentioned above.
“Kaya ko namang mag tuloy-tuloy sa diet ko basta may pinaghahandaan. Pero pag wala naman po kahit hindi todo rice kasi pag masarap ang ulam hindi mo maiwasan,” said Alden.
As regards Cosmo Bash, Alden is mum on what he’ll do on-stage. The annual Cosmo Bash has been known for “male gimmickries” in which known celebrities or models would surprise the audience with their “naughty presence” on the runway.
One thing is certain: Alden won’t go out wearing just trunks or underwear.
“Bawal po kasi yun,” he expressed.
Apparently, management is safeguarding his “still” wholesome image. And the fact that he isn’t “ready” yet.
“Maybe when I reach that point in my career that I’ve matured and no longer belongs to that wholesome bracket, I’ll strip down to just my underwear or trunks,” he pointed-out. “Pag dumating na sa, hindi naman po last resort, yung ready na po ako. Ngayon po kasi hindi pa masyado…ayaw ko rin pong magsalita ng tapos kung kailan, pero not this year po yung todong pagpapa-sexy yung naka-underwear po talaga.”
Of his wholesome image, he further explained that switching suddenly to a sexy image might turn-off his fans. He gets negative comments from some of his fans whenever he takes off his clothes on “Sunday All Star.”
“Yung branding ng GMA-7 po sa akin ay wholesome. Napapansin ko nga po na kapag pinaghuhubad lagi sa ‘Sunday All Star’… merong hindi natutuwa at di nila nagugustuhan yun. May mga nagsasabi pa nga na pinagsasamantalahan daw ako ng show.”
He stressed though that what he does on “Sunday All Star” is just part of giving the best performance.
Despite Cosmo Bash stint, Alden remains wholesome
