A scene from ‘On The Job’
Internationally acclaimed “On the Job” (OTJ) is set to become the first Filipino film released in Blu-ray high-definition format.
Director Erik Matti posted on his Facebook page a link indicating Feb. 18 next year as the US release date of the crime thriller’s Blu-ray and DVD versions, with Amazon.com accepting pre-orders for $16.98 and $14.98, respectively, as early as now.
Filipino fans will have the chance to get their hands on the “OTJ” DVD earlier, with Star Cinema releasing it locally on Dec. 19, Matti announced during a recent screening of the film’s “international cut.”
And while he pointed out that the US and local release will present two different forms, the filmmaker said that both home video versions will have “director’s commentary, special features and lots of deleted scenes.”
Matti expounded on disparities between the two versions, particularly sequences that were taken out in the international cut.
“The consensus that we received from programmers is that while they love the Acosta role played by Joey Marquez, they thought the backstory of his family only slows down the film and does not really advance the plot,” he related in an interview with InterAksyon. With this, the wife of Marquez’ character (played by Rosanna Roces) and his son (JM de Guzman) will not be seen in the foreign version.
Another is Piolo Pascual and Shaina Magdayao’s much talked-about love scene.
“You know, I’ve been hearing a lot of how that particular scene is not really necessary, but it is an important scene in the sense that it establishes how much Shaina’s character is being used as leverage by his politician father played by Michael de Mesa to keep Piolo Pascual’s NBI agent in line and make sure his son-in-law does his bidding,” Matti explained.
‘OTJ’ in Hollywood
Co-producer Dondon Monteverde of Reality Entertainment also shared developments in talks on the Hollywood remake of
“OTJ.”
Monteverde said that aside from the $US500,000 they will receive from Universal Pictures for “OTJ’s” film rights, their film production company will get 5% of the total worldwide gross of its Hollywood version.
