For the first time since the murder of his son Ramgen two years ago, former actor and senator Ramon Revilla Sr. revealed his indignation over the prosecution of Ramgen’s younger brother, Ramon Joseph, for the crime.
The 86-year-old patriarch of the Revilla clan vouched for the innocence of his son Ramon Joseph or “RJ”, 20, who has been detained at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig since late 2011, as well as his daughter Ramona, who had fled the country before she was formally charged for her alleged complicity.
Ramgen, RJ, and Ramona are three of nine children Ramon Sr. fathered from his union with Genelyn Magsaysay. RJ and Ramona have been accused of plotting with at least five other people to kill their eldest brother over jealousy in the distribution of the family’s monthly allowance.
Judge Fortunito Madrona of Paranaque Regional Trial Court Branch 247 recently denied their petition for bail.
“Para akong nabagsakan ng mundo ng malaman ko na ang aking anak na si Ramon Joseph ay hindi nabigyan ng piyansa ng hukuman. Ako po ay naniniwalang hindi magagawa ng anak ko ang ganiyang bagay na karumaldumal,” the ailing Ramon Sr. said in a statement that bore his thumbmark.
The statement, which was released on Thursday to coincide with RJ’s 20th birthday, claimed that RJ was arrested without a warrant. “Inosente po ang aking anak,” Ramon Sr. insisted.
The Revilla patriarch also asked the public to join him and his family in praying for justice for his three children, namely the slain Ramgen, the incarcerated RJ, and the exiled Ramona, who is believed to be living in Turkey with her husband.
Ramon, Sr. was a major action star who shot to fame with the 1972 movie “Nardong Putik”. He is believed to have sired at least 72 children, although he has recognized only 38 of them. The most prominent of them is his namesake, actor and incumbent senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr.
Magsaysay, the mother of Ramgen, has accused Bong of influencing the police investigation that led to the prosecution of RJ and Ramona.
Ramgen was shot to death inside his room in the family residence in Paranaque, while his girlfriend, Janelle Manahan, survived the assault. Manahan has testified that RJ and Ramona conspired with the killers.
