Miss Universe 2011 3rd runner-up Shamcey Supsup has given her all-out support to this year’s Miss Universe candidate, Ariella “Ara” Arida.
Although she wasn’t able to join her sendoff, “the week before she went to Russia, we had a training with her… parang open forum (type),” Shamcey related at the press conference for Lifestyle Network’s “Interior Motives” Season 2.
She said she gave Ara “day-by-day (pointers on) what’s going to happen when you get there, what do you have to do, when is the right time to really put your effort, your energy.” She also told Ara, “’Wag every day mapapagod ka. Siyempre you have to look beautiful every day.”
The 27-year-old beauty queen from General Santos City thinks Ara is all set and could do really well.
“Very confident na (siya). Kasi before kinakabahan daw siya when she talks to people. She has this personality, but it only comes out when she’s with her friends. Sabi ko, ‘’Wag mong isipin anong sasabihin nila, what they would comment,’ kasi sabi ko ‘During my time it’s the same thing. Even with Janine (Tugonon), (and) Venus (Raj), people would always have something to say about you. You just have to be yourself, don’t think about what they’re going to say, kasi ’pag ganun, you’ll hold back,’” she related.
In Ara’s defense
As to the issue that besetted Ara for her alleged “offensive” remark in an interview, Shamcey has this to say:
“Well, I don’t think she meant it that way. What she just said is that, usually when we watch pageants, even if (the candidates) can speak English – for example, during my time, though all the girls in the Top 5 can speak very well in English, ’cause we talk in English – they chose to answer in their native language,” she opined.
“Parang what Ara is saying, is that she doesn’t have to be fluent in English to be able to answer. ’Cause it’s the idea behind it – ’yun ’yung meaning niya. And she’s saying na ‘Bakit ’yung iba naman, they don’t answer in English, but they answer in their native language, but they still get the crown, or they still win, so ibig sabihin, it’s not about English, or Tagalog, parang she doesn’t mean naman siguro na hindi sila marunong.”
Hearing wedding bells
Shamcey, who topped the Architecural Licensure Exam in 2010, is set to tie the knot with her boyfriend, Filipino-Chinese businessman Lloyd Lee on Dec. 29.
“Medyo haggard,” she said, laughing, of having to deal with the preparations. “Well, still happy, ’cause I have a lot of work – sinisingit-singit ’yung mga (preparations).
She admitted that she “didn’t know na I’m going to be so hands-on with the wedding. Akala ko, basta simple wedding lang, okay na sa ’kin sabi ko nga ’50 people lang’ (eh).”
Before, Shamcey thought “parang, ‘Pwede na ’yan, pwede na ’tong ganitong design;’ ngayon pati kulay ng font ng invitation – ganun ha – gano kalaki ’yung pangalan – ganun siya ka-detalye. Hindi ko akalain na, isang araw, invitation card pa lang ang pinag-uusapan namin.”
“Para kasing habang patagal ng patagal, parang mas nare-realize mo na, ‘Uy kailangan ko pala nito, kailangan ko pa pala ng ganito, uy dagdag pa pala ng like this.’ I don’t know nga, (kasi) we started small…”
Still, work hasn’t let up on the bride-to-be. On being given the chance to host the second season of the interior design show, Shamcey exclaimed, “Matagal na matagal ko nang pinapangarap magkaron ng sariling show, that is, (an) interior or architectural design-based (show).”
“Interior Motives” Season 2 premieres on Nov. 7, 9:30 p.m., on the Lifestyle Network.
